    cell phone while on trip

I'm coming to Thailand for a few months and want to get a cell phone while I'm there to keep in contact with my girl and help me with my job search. Any thought on cell phone service while I'm in Thailand? Thanks.

    dead easy.

got a phone already? if not buy one, anywhere you like, emporium, paragon for new, MBK for 2nd hand.

is it unlocked? if not unlock it at MBK for about 100 baht or summtink.

then get a SIM card, every 7-11 sells them.

several brands all much the same (i think)

DTAC or happy dprompt, 12call etc.

buy SIM card - I think 500 baht and will include some call time, not much.

    insert in phone,

    start using.

Far as I know the sim is free, you only are paying for the time.

7-11 usually have DTAC Sim cards at 50 baht a pop (no air time). Although I believe AIS has more coverage in country and cheaper rates (as they have the largest market share). For an AIS Sim just go into any of the AIS-GSM retail outlets , you can't miss them, have them in just about every shopping mall.
