    google.co.th google.com.au its a mess

All over the world now google is trying to redirect you to their search engines in the country you are in, quite often the way they generate results is not quite what your looking for as they will place importance on that countries website, ie you maybe in Thailand looking for a car repair shop in Florida, on google.co.th they will place a lot of importance on Thai related websites that are of no interest to you to be able to tell your wife in Florida what the phone number of "Bills cheap spares and repairs" is, so....

First off you need to go to our Web Development Tools page, click on Check IP Location, now type in the url of the google you want, ie google.com google.co.hk or whatever nasty johnny foreigner country you want, this will then give you the IP of the site, for google.com it is 209.85.171.100 now stick this in your url bar at the top and click enter or go and you come to googles nice friendly almost English language search engine, you can save the url in your bookmarks so those nasty redirects google uses wont foking redirect you to some johnny foreignor language search engine again.

If you use Firefox or IE 7/8 and search through the search box next to the address bar just go to

Mycroft Project: Search Engine Plugins - Firefox & IE7

You can then pick the search engine location from the list and add it to your browser.

^^You cant generally, type in say google.co.uk and it redirects you to google.co.th if your in Thailand, I assume this is now set up for most countries that google has server farms in, thats ok for most people, but a real pain for expats and tourists.

Another impact this has on people with websites is their search engine results will be and are different in different countries, ie you maybe first for "Thailand Travel" on the Thai server farms, but as google becomes more specific Joe Doe in Rednecksville, Australia may find the first page taken up by travel agents in his local area of Rednecksville, at present the differences aren't that drastic for good pages with unique content, although some of stuff we are first page on in Thailand we are no where to be seen on the Aussie google, it will most likely get worse before it gets better as the majority of people using search engines are looking for stuff local to them.

Me too. Then click on image to get full size, or save to desk top and do what you like.

Another trick for narrowing down stuff on google is using the countries abbreviation, ie you want a specific hotel in Hong Kong but keep getting all the hotel deals sites and can't get to the hotels own website, try it with "HK" or "com.hk", this will then give precedence to Hong Kong websites as opposed to all the bloody .com special hotel deals websites.

Right, this thread has been indexed, doing a google for "google.com.au" there is 61 million entries, thats quite a few aint it, so using google.co.th it appears that teakdoor comes in at number 67 with this thread for the search term "google.com.au", now if the search was done on google.com.au I reckon we would be in the top 10 million, maybe even in the top 1 million, but sadly there aint anybody in the world whose life is that sad to actually waste their time to find it, so what impact will this have on your websites?

    This is weird
If I use 209.85.171.100 then I can't save my preferences
It tells me that cookies are turned off
If I use google.co.th then it is no problem
