    Sorry, another dimwit question

I'm on a really rubbish internet connection via a mobile phone gadget, because I have no phone line & TOT still haven't come to install the line or the broadband (both ordered in Aug 2008!) Anyway, this allows me to access most websites that I want to (albeit very slowly & cutting out on average 2 or 3 times per session), but it very often won't allow me access to my own website or my email. If I go to an internet cafe, I can access them fine, so I'm pretty sure it's my connection, not the website.

    So, 2 questions:

Why can I access many websites, but not my own?

What (if anything) can I do about it? Short of earmarking a day to sit in TOT's office until they get off their arses and come to install the long promised line & broadband?

    Cheers.

The server you are hosted with seems extremely slow and your pictures extremely large kb wise.

OK, cheers for that. Interesting to know that we're not viewable to anyone with a really slow connection. Not sure what I'm going to do about it, the idea of deleting all those pics, resizing them and putting them up again is not exactly palatable. At least I can try & make them smaller from now on.

With my email, I know it's connected to the website, but do I actually load the website (albeit unseen) every time I try to access my email account, then?

Ok, here I show how thick I am again. The server would be AIS Mobilelife, (I think !) I'm not good with servers, browsers, IPs, ISPs.

Is your computer connection optimised for a dial up line ?

Was your computer set up before to run with ADSL ?

Outlook Epxress is shite on slow connections...

Create a gmail, ymail, hotmail, etc... account with a web-based interface, then change the email address links on your website to the new email addy... That way, you can access your email via any browser and on any connection, albeit slowly...

^^No idea to both. I used dial-up before I moved here and the dial up connection box seems to pop up as a default. So I guess it might be a yes to the first one. No idea to the second (ADSL would be what?)

I can access my email by using webmail, but, again, it doesn't work when I can't connect with my website. Is that what you'd expect or not?

Sounds like your hosting company has you on a low bandwidth connection... Especially if you can access other websites / services ok, although slowly...
