2500 Baht (or maybe even less now) buys you a 320Gb hard disk.
Ask one of the local gurus for help to install it.
Bring out your backup tape/cd's/dvd's and you're back in business.

That's what I thought - just needed confirmation. I might just get a shop to copy everything onto a new HD anyway.

    ^^&^^^

Cheers for the tips/pointers lads. Think I'll look to do both, extra disk space never hurt anyone.

So I'm a bit doomed either way.
Lazee boy, [as they said above] just buy yourself a new hard disk, they're cheaper than chips these days. Internal or in an external USB case, either way they wont cost you more than 2 family dinners at a decent resto.

They will probably try to sell you a Western Digital. If you can get a Seagate I've had more luck with those. Either way, the good thing is that when a hard disk fails they will usually give you a new one under warranty.

I have four dead seagates, I gave up on them.

Now I have 2 WD's, so far so good.

Maybe it is all luck of the draw. I've had three Western Digitals fail on me and no Seagates so far.
