What antivirus and internet security suite do you use?

I am currently using AVG but my Firefox keeps crashing and I think it may be some sort of security problem.

If i buy a knock off antivirus, which should I buy and will i get updates, are they easy to install.

Also generally on pirate software, is it worth it to buy, in my experience, I could never install them fully, wher do ppl recommend to buy from and is it possible to go to the shop with laptop and get them to install directly.

Or is that not a good idea??

    Cheers

I reckon that when it comes to anti-virus stuff you're better off buying originals. Sorta defeats the purpose somewhat getting a pirated version in my opinion.

And there's some fairly good free stuff in any event. I use a combo of AVAST! anti-virus and the ZoneAlarm firewall and (touch wood) I've not had any problems. Both also update automatically with new definitions and the like so once installed no need to worry about it.

    BitDefender & Kaspersky.

    Why no other option?

I use ClamAV, the firewall and NAT built in to my LinkSys router (running Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c) and the firewall that comes with Leopard. And, I still get junk like this:

    Code:
Jan 17 10:34:14 Boing kernel[0]: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.1.51:27939 from 79.114.227.176:48987
Jan 17 10:34:15 Boing kernel[0]: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.1.51:27939 from 190.160.130.149:55256
Jan 17 10:34:15 Boing kernel[0]: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.1.51:27939 from 72.71.57.214:53992
Yes, this is the port used by Azureus, but I get these bastards banging on my door even when Azureus isn't running....

I use AVG, and have for years. I am a total Firefox user. I've never experienced any crashing at all.

Running a spec built Windows (XP) machine on a True broadband connection.

^^I've never bothered using ClamAV or any other virus software on Linux, but I haven't had any problems (yet). I use firestarter firewall.

AVG (and I have never had a problem with FF crashing unless there is one of DD's videos on the page).

NOD32 is very light and powerful, it doesn't slow your PC like the others do

I think it's the only one with a 99.99% detection rate,

AVG doesn't either unless it's doing a full system scan.

Avast (sometimes cloggs up my net connection when updating definitions) and Comodo Firewall. I run Housecall every now again and 3 or 4 spyware are often detected.

Yes, excellent this one if you run Windows.

As I run Mandriva I don't have an antivirus and the integrated firewall based on iptables works well (Shorewall), I just opened the Bittorent ports and all the rest is stealthed.

Can't say that I've had that issue.

What it did do however was almost give my mother-in-law a heart-attack once when she was staying in the spare room and I'd left the PC on.

"Virus database has been updated" blaring out at 3am in the morning can cause quite a shock.

Tried Kaspersky, and found it used quite a bit of memory, so moved onto Nod32 and had no problems.

For me, fixed a couple that others caught but couldn't treat. Top marks for Nod 32. Still trying to find a 64 bit firewall that won't break/slow down.

I used to use a genuine version of Norton 360 but after a couple of months it wouldn't do a live update unless I de-installed it and then re-installed the damn thing. I was online to the Norton service chatline for nearly a hour and they couldn't fix it nor could their "expert" from Europe.
In the end I dumped it and tried a couple of free ones until I settled on Avast free version with a look at Drweb Cureit evry 3 or 4 days.
Norton was expensive and used soooooo much memory and still didn't find all the viruses I had.
Now as far as I can tell my PC is virus free.

Norton is the worst, and they have a 50% success rate according to real tech labs,

how do they get away selling that crap is beyond me, but people are suckers when it comes to computers, so no wonder that crappy companies like Norton and MS can survive for so long in this industry,
