Ahhh so you are finally admiting that macs perform better then PC's as it takes 2 pcs to = 1 mac.

Bout time you came out of the closest.

You also say that "savvy" businesses will buy 2 computers instead of 1 for the same price.

2 lots of licenses, twice as many things to go wrong...savvy? More like stupid.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

I looked at buying a Mac, they are appreciably more expensive though. And my 'but they look cool' rational didn't quite cut it with Mrs R.

having money has got nothing to do with it.

Buying 1 mac is cheaper then buying 2 pcs.

I used to run the IT Support division for a fairly large company in the UK, we had roughly the same number of Macs and PC's on contract cover.

For every one Mac engineer, I needed five experienced PC ones. When OSX was released and stable most of the calls performed by the Mac engineers were 'courtesy calls' we had to be seen to be doing something for the money.

Most non-savvy businesses only see the original capital cost of the hardware and do not take into account revenue lost by down-time and the cost of ongoing support.

Over a sustained period, the true cost of a PC is considerably higher than a Mac.

Are people here talking about hardware or software when they say Mac and PC? Seems to me that makes a big difference.

That's what I was thinking. The OS can be changed and the hardware is the same so when it comes down to it I don't think there's much of an inherent difference, just appearance and the fact that people who own PCs like to take them apart to do cool things with and Mac users are all gay and like to gaze for hours at the sleek perfection of their machine while wondering just what the hell it's for It's all just hot air and fud. (really, I like Macs, I just can't afford one so I'm resentful )

As in a PC will perform as well as a Mac costing twice as much. So you can buy two and get twice as much bang for your buck.

I know you're an Aussie, but jeez....

For me it's not a cost issue, sure Macs look lovely and looks great in your living room and make you look a bit gay (nothing wrong with that) but frankly in terms of usability, Windows XP are doing far more, that is if you know how to use a real computer.

But if you are a clueless tard, then maybe a PocketPC or a mobile with an embedded OS might be more appropriate, the Mac is not going to answer your needs.

Mac: beautiful design for gay computer geeks
PC: powerful reliable machines for real men who love real computers

    How so?

Microsoft Office was available for the Mac long before Windows, all the Adobe proiducts likewise and there isn't any website that isn't just as accessible through Safari or Firefox for Mac than the PC.

One of the loudest shouts for the PC has always been "but there's so much more software" ...... yes there is..... but who needs 20 different word processing applications.... it's never been a valid argument, never will be.

When it comes to high-end graphics processing, be it still or animated, flat or rendered, the Mac beat the PC into submission years ago. It's a computer designed from the ground up with graphics in mind, even back in '84 the original Mac had a processing chip on-board purely to handle colour graphics (even though the monitor was B/W, that's what you call forward thinking)

The only box that has come close is the NeXT, another little Jobbs project. The basic architecture of the PC hasn't changed much in 30 years, it's only the fact that the processors are now that fast that prevent Windoze from appearing as a clunky workaround to bad hardware design.

Buy a computer to suit your personal needs, PC's and Macs do different things, a mac has been designed as a media tool and works much more efficiently in that field. I use a mac and think that it was good value for my money as it does everything I need. If a PC does what you need buy one of them then.

That's urban legend, it has been proven many times over than Macs are slower even in the graphics department. Most of Adobe products run faster on a PC etc... and to make things worse, Macs had to use a PC manufacturer of Video Cards to catch up with the rest of the market as Apple products couldn't compete anymore. Macs are slow machine per design period. The OS couldn't compete in terms of usability and speed with modern PC. Macs had an edge until 1997 because Windows wasn't ready for prime time. That changed with WinNT 4.0, which became a reliable and fast OS, doing things much more efficiently than a Mac could dream of. That was the beginning of the end for the MacOS

It was a joke project, a MacTen Unix Box with a nice X11 User Interface. Nothing accomplished in that project. Actually most of the problems of the current MacOS X are coming from the integration of that failed project into current Apple OS components.

FFS , boys and their toys

Neither a PC nor a Mac is a "real man's" computer, whatever that means anyway. They're appliances, consumer systems for home and business, churned out by the million for everybody from game players to coders to full-time perverts. At best they can be nodes in a "real man's" computer. Get over it, our little boxes of tricks are just little boxes of tricks, powerful yes, does cool things, yes, but hardly something to be bragging about. You might as well be showing off your washing machines.

    These are real (man's?) computers, even tho some pics show lots of racks each picture shows one, single, computer;
