Google plans to update Android phones on Thursday so an interaction with Chromecast video-streaming devices and Google Home smart speakers won't whack your Wi-Fi.
Google acknowledged the problem in a customer support post and said the update to Android's Google Play Services software will arrive Thursday to fix it.
"In certain situations, a bug in the Cast software on Android phones may incorrectly send a large amount of network traffic which can slow down or temporarily impact Wi-Fi networks," Google said of the problem. "People with an Android phone and a Chromecast built-in device (such as a Chromecast or Google Home device) on the same Wi-Fi network may experience this issue."

Had one 2 years never have got it to work, all links up OK then at the last step says device not found. Easier just to stick an HDMI cable in

Easier to use one of these and sideload Kodi/Android apps to it.

Google Play services app has received a new update to largely fix the Wi-Fi interruption issue that had affected a vast number of Google Chromecast users worldwide. The update, which is a new stable release with version 11.9.75, surfaces a couple of weeks after Google pushed its Play services app version 11.9.73 beta to address the Wi-Fi issue at an early stage.

Unlike the beta version that was limited as an opt-in, the latest stable release is available for
download for all users through Google Play.

First spotted earlier this month, the Wi-Fi interruption issue was randomly crashing Wi-Fi networks connected with Google Chromecast devices. Some Google Home and Home Max devices were also reported with the same flaw. An initial discovery by router vendors revealed that the flaw was existing within Google's 'Cast' feature.

Further, TP-Link engineers in an FAQ listing had stated that Wi-Fi connectivity broke due to multicast DNS (MDNS) packets that Google Chromecast and Home devices broadcast in a large amount, at a very high speed in a short amount of time. TP-Link, Linksys, and Netgear released beta firmware updates from their sides to temporarily resolve the network interruption.

The new Google Play services version is also expected to include fixes for the Nexus Player remote sleep issue that was initially set to be addressed via a server-side update, as
reported by Android Police. You can download the update by visiting the Play store from your device or can download the latest APK through APK Mirror.

what is the advantage of a chromecast to a minix device ? apart from being half the cost - which in the scheme of things nothing

can you run downloaded torrents from a hard drive or flash drive ?

    can it do h265 at 1080p ?

can you watch streamed live sport from dodgy sources ?

I am looking to grab a u9-h as where I am has a reasonable internet connection and the normal channels are the basic dire crap

    Minix are so last year.

Get yourself a Zidoo H6 Pro, or better still a Dreamlink T2.

zido - same 2gig ram , not a fully featured airmouse , no mali GPU - any what history do they have for updates

dreamtech website timed out - had 2 goes

I think I will stick with another minix - downsides are no USB3 and 2 gig ram - though I suspect 2 gig is fine for marshmallow android and up - bundled A3 airmouse also has the keyboard on the back
    https://www.lazada.co.th/smart-andro...5ab02154OdZ4vz

I have time to drift through the minix forums to see if there is anything real to make me say no

but obviously your vote now is ditch the chromecast

Chromecast has its place for people who stream to the PC and just want to move that onto the TV.

Myself I have a Drobo plugged into the Internal router so any device can see it over NFS/SMB.

The Zidoo has a really nice interface and runs Kodi. WTF do you want an airmouse for?

The remote has a pointer button to switch to and from mouse mode.

As far as the oomph is concerned, I watched a 25Gb bluray rip yesterday without a skip.

It updated out of the box.

As for updates, they seem pretty regular.

I've got a chromecast thingy here at the house if anyone would like to borrow it. It's a friend of mine's and she doesn't use it.

Correction: The Allwinner H6 has a Mali 720.

    https://www.cnx-software.com/2017/11...-allwinner-h6/

Not sure why the Dreamlink site didn't open.
But that uses the Hisilicon Hi3798C with a Mali 720 as well.

I really like the Zidoo though. Excellent, responsive UI and it doesn't seem to have any problem playing media or IPTV.

    Well I tried this:

Will give it a whirl tonight, see if I can't sort out me rugby viewing.
    And it didn't work.

Or at least it did work perfectly for about 1 min and then keep shutting off repeatedly.

Might have to give one of these Chrome-thingies a go.

^It’s called RugbyPass... subscription service, has all the SH and NH stuff ( some RL too).

Pretty good really, only about $20 p/m, but they use flash or something that I can’t get to run on my PS4’s browser.

    Fucking hell, $240 a year.

I only pay $160 for Smoothstreams, and that has every sport known to man (and in different definitions).

I'd recommend if they hadn't closed subscriptions for now.

Is it legit though? I found arsing around with all the dodgy ones more trouble than I was worth after a while.

RugbyPass have a proper license thingy.

Nah of course not. How else could it be cheaper than two months of Sky?

But very reliable. That's why I keep renewing it.
