Why Do I Need New Volume E ?

The first time that I tried to save a Photoshopped image my laptop wouldn't ket me do it . I got messages saying my Hard Disk was full when it definitely wasn't .
So I was told I needed to divide my storage .
I did that - though I don't remember how I managed to do that . I'm interested but I'm not paralysed with interest .

Anyway ... the result is that I have a 'C' area and this new area called New Volume (E) and it's all a pain .

I mess around with an image . Try to save it . Get a message telling me my storage is full when in fact I have 1.18TB free of 1.48TB .
So I have to save again and send it to this "E" storage .

    It's a pain in the bum .

I can't save images to the Desktop or in fact anywhere else at all except this pesky new 'E'.
If anybody can explain this ..... or preferably tell me how to fix it I would be very grateful.

Move some files from C to E to clear space in C.

^ not good advice if C only contains windows

wasp - I guess you have C drive ( which will have windows in it ) , D drive ( your DVD cup holder ) and E drive ( your storage area ) which you are unhappy about

not sure what operating system you are using

but maybe a cup of tea and a bit of telly can help -
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

My point here is that the C Drive ... has pretty much nothing in it .

I process something and type a " Save As " name onto it -- Press Save -- and the damn thing says there is no Disk space .
But there is !! There is 1.18 TB empty . There's loads and loads of empty space in there .

So I have to retype the name and send it to New Volume E .

There's a fault somewhere but I can't identify it or fix it .

    BALDRICK
........... I started to look at that video.
What it shows me most of all is something that I keep forgetting . My first Port of Call should be Youtube of course .
So much help on there . So I'll scan my way through there and its bound to help .

    Thank you for the pointer.

Open File Explorer if you are on Windows

Right click on your C drive

    Click Properties

Then you will see used space and free space on that drive

When you partitioned it you probably went a bit far

There are hidden folders in that C drive to stop computer cretins like yourself deleting the important stuff like the operating system

Wasp ... just quietly, just do a virus check on the computer.
Some manifest themselves in the strangest ways.

Failing that ... Dilly's suggestion of a computer shop is good.

To delete a partition on a hard drive, follow the steps below. Warning: Deleting a partition will permanently erase any data that is presently stored on it. Press the Windows key or click the Start button. Type Create and format hard disk partitions, and then press Enter.

To get started, open Disk Utility by searching for it using Spotlight or finding it in Applications > Utilities. Next, click on the partition that you want to delete in the left panel. With your partition selected, click the Erase button at the top of Disk Utility. This will bring up a window with an Erase button.

Sounds like it is a partition Wasp

If we're talking the same thing biff ...I created the partition . Because I had to . I couldn't send things straight into the vastly empty C Drive .

I'm starting to think it's actually a problem with the Photoshop .

As for the dinosaur comment ...... I've long seen that ipads have some uses .
But by and large I think they're useless. Really quite gay . I have movies on DVDs and I LIKE having them that way . I like watching them on a decent screen . I like a real keyboard . I don't want all my stuff up in a " Cloud " somewhere . Being accidentally wiped by somebody else . Or stolen - as happens all the time .
I've had both and I fairly quickly sent my ipad to ebay .
There are many so-called ' advances ' that are cute and they have their place .
Usually in the hands of females who only need a screen and a microphone to continue their interminable Facebook Group Chats . But if I'm drawing on Sketchup or redesigning plans for a church ( my present project ) a tablet is as useful as a frying pan made out of chocolate.

If I draw up my list of pros and cons --- a good laptop absolutely wipes the floor with effeminate tablets.

So is it only PS that won't let you save to C: ?

Can you save a text file from notepad on C: ?

How about a screenshot pasted into MS paint ?

If you went to all the bother of doing a partition before checking these then...

Is it a photoshop copy that has installation settings making it expect an E drive?

If instead of creating a new E partition, you stuck in a usb stick, wouldn't it pop up as the E drive? Check your installition configuration files.

Apart from the unnecessary language ..... what do you mean " that's what it was designed for " ?

It's an awful lot easier to use a mouse with a laptop than faffing around with a pad !

Troy .... I bought Photoshop some time ago at a ' proper ' computer outlet in a Mall in Korat . It was supposed to be the genuine article .
It was always fine but on this newest laptop I installed it again from my disks and have always had this problem .

It's not a big problem . A small stone in your shoe is not a big problem either .
    Just an annoyance.

Its a problem with older versions of PS not recognising drives over 1TB

Uninstall PS then re-install it on the your E drive.
If its installed on E then uninstall and re-install on C drive

    https://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

watch this but move the extra space from E to C

But if I'm drawing on Sketchup or redesigning plans for a church ( my present project )

    Thank you blue :

No No ............ I'm using Sketchup sometimes ... OR ..... sometimes I'm doing my redesigns using Photoshop.

I'm not working on the Churches any more . I'm working now on the Churchyard layouts and on planning reburials --- which are simplest on Photoshop .

Your technical advice ..... is very appreciated .
But it's just a small annoyance which I'd like to obliterate. I'll not mess with it as it is working.
I think Dillinger has it right when he says it's older PS not recognising storage over 1 TB .

Appreciated Dilly ...... but I won't mess with it that much .

I used ' Paint ' last night to save a photo to the Desktop and it was fine .... so it's definitely the PS that has the problem .

I think you've hit it when you say it's an old PS version which has trouble recognising storage over 1 TB .

I'll leave the small stone in my shoe and limp away from this now.
