Getting a new processor for a laptop?

For some reason I bought a laptop last year for the sproglette to watch her Peppa Pig on while I'm busy playing Championship Manager on the tablet.

    It sucks. 1.66GhZ processor.

    Win 10 too.

Takes 10 minutes to fokin' do anything.

Getting down to techs n specs, it's info is that it is a very nice, shiny metallic purple.

Also says that it's an Asus x453s

4gb RAM which should be okay for playing My little fecking Pony on Gom Player within 5 minutes of clicking on it.

So guess it's the crappy 1.66ghz processor.

It says 'Upto 2.16 Ghz' on the sticker, so I guess I can get a 2.16ghz processor and jam it in.

It looks like Invadeit only have 2.8ghz and up.

CPU Processors Thailand, Intel CPU Thailand, AMD CPU Thailand, Intel Processor Thailand, AMD Processor Thailand, Skylake CPU Thailand Thailand - invadeIT

    And they're for PCs.

    I think.

I presume that laptop and PC processors are different?

I also presume that I need to abide by the Law Of The Sticker and not get a 3Ghz one, and that 2.16 is the max the motherboard or whatever can handle.

Anyone know where to get a 2.16ghz processor for a laptop?

Why not get a 512 MB SSD instead? You'll notice a huge difference in speed.

Cause I don't know what it is.

    Only joking.

Still don't have one of them on any of my computers - 3 PC's, laptop and tablet.

Even with a 1.66ghz processor would it likely make a Win 10 laptop become usable?

Guess it comes down to this: Would it likely make it faster than upgrading to a 2.16ghz processor?

    Wait a minute.

    https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-512GB.../dp/B004W2JL3Y

    That's about 10k baht.

Think the whole laptop only cost that.

All I want to do is be able watch My Little Pony.

Yeah, it's the only Win 10 I have as it came with it installed, all the others are Win 7 Ultimate.

Also plan to take it to Zeer and get a copy on Win 7 installed on it.

    Buy Samsung 120GB 2.5" SSD 750 Evo Series (MZ-750120BW) - invadeit.co.th

    Is that for a laptop?

How much time do you think you'll gain with a 30% faster cpu?

I guess that is the turbo speed for a cpu which normally (in order to save batt) runs at 1.66GHz.

Do you mean that I can get any Ghz processor and whack it in? That it isn't limited to a 2.16Ghz one?

What makes you think that you can replace the cpu?
I very much doubt that they have spent money on a cpu socket in such a cheap notebook, the cpu is most likely soldered directly on the circuit board.

Whack it open and have a look Or google for cpu updates for your model.

You don't need a faster cpu. Pretty sure that's a dual core, which should be plenty man enough. Are you sure all that 4gb ram is there and working?

Here part of the specs for the Intel Celeron Dual-Core N3050 Processor you have in that Asus notebook:

    Processor Base Frequency 1.60GHz
Burst Frequency 2.16GHz (turbo mode, kicks in when needed)

Nothing wrong with an SSD, I'm sure.

How much is it to have one thrown into a laptop?

Would a crappy 1.66Ghz processor hinder it?

    Cheers.

So the 'up to 2.16Ghz' is nothing to do with what I can replace it with then, I take it.

So can get a 4Ghz Processor and whack it in?

Definitely not, maybe the N3150 which is a Quad core and running at the same frequency as N3050.
I still don't think there is any socket for the cpu in your notebook so you can probably not whack in anything..

    SSD or CPU upgrade?

Hard Drives/Solid State Drives: We've talked about this a lot before, but it's worth repeating: Upgrading to a solid state drive (SSD) is one of the best upgrades you can make in terms of general speed boosts. An SSD can speed up your boot time and the launching of applications, though it isn't going to encode video any faster or make your games run more smoothly (though they will load faster). An SSD won't make web sites load any faster, and it isn't really worth it if you only use a few applications. It's especially great for those using slow-launching programs (again, like Photoshop) or launching many applications at once. Upgrading your regular hard drive to a more spacious hard drive (that is, a non-SSD) will only help your speed if you're regularly running out of space.

    Cheers.

Looks like I'll have to listen to Blaney if I can't buy and install a better processor.

    Sounds great.

    Thanks.

Until recently, PC buyers had very little choice about what kind of storage to get in a laptop or desktop. If you bought an ultraportable, you likely had a solid-state drive (SSD) as the primary drive (C: on Windows, Macintosh HD on a Mac). Every other desktop or laptop form factor had a hard disk drive (HDD). Now, you can configure your system with either an HDD or an SSD, or in some cases both.

    An SSD and more memory.

Or just put Windows 7 on it and slow the fucking thing down even more.

Expensive laptops don't have the option to switch the processor, so I doubt that a cheapo would.

You could run CCleaner every day- free version ok, to keep it err clean..

Uninstall all the programs that you don't need.

Stop greedy programs auto starting , and clogging things up-
in Windows 7 it's via typing or pasting into the start search box
    msconfig
then under the - Startup tab - deselect everything except security.

or the above and get a small SSD drive .

Cheers, but it's completely clean. Doesn't even have programs on it to switch off at start up.
