    Up grading windows XP

Just a question for those who understand this shuff.

I have an xpreditor pgs b, a gaming computer, it runs windows XP, can I take it to the local computer shop [Thailand ] and can I up grade to a newer version of windows.

XP is fine for most things I need, but newer games won't play on it, locals will put anything you want on it for 200 Baht, not a legal copy of course.

So is there problems running illegal copies and what would be the best version for this computer.
Thank in advance for any advice.

When you run all this pirate shit you open yourself to all sorts of viruses and malware.

That may well be true, but I have had few problems over the years. Don't keep much on the computer, except movies, TV and a few games, if it starts acting strange, take it to get wiped and XP reloaded.

Don't do internet banking etc so if they got access to my TD password, no big threat.

So windows 7 is the best bet, will give it a try, at 200 Baht a shot can always go back to XP.

Get them to install Win 7 on it.

Then take it home and delete every single program they have on it.
It will come with around 10,000 thai chat programs etc on it.

Install Ccleaner, spybot s+d, malware bytes and superantispyware. And an antivirus. Update and run all of them.

Keep all your stuff on Ext. HDD and you're good to go.

Cheers will give it a go, it's a big computer, can run, I think 20 other game terminals off it.
Got it for free really, guy went to Uni with the wife, he runs some sort of computer business, this stuff was out of date.
He wanted to see if there was a market up here in the never lands, wasn't, so I have 12 terminals for game playing and this big black box.
Good for everything I need, except for newer games.

^^ Personally I would keep it just as it is and forget the newer games you want to play. If you really want to play some super new game you'll probably find the graphics card doesn't support it or you need to upgrade drivers and then find some other unrelated problem bubbles to the surface.

If new games are a must then buy a new computer and donate this beauty to a village school that could make use of such equipment...I can help finding one...

May as well post this here...

I use Ubuntu at the moment but LibreOffice fucks up Thai docx files, as does Word running under Wine and even Windows 7 on a virtual machine (fuck knows what's going on and I don't really want to spend countless nights getting to the bottom of it) so I'm going to have to install Windows. Is there any advantage/disadvantage in installing Windows 8.1 over 7? Obviously I'm not planning on buying a legit copy of this and I understand Windows 10 is a bit of a ballache with regard to cracked software so that's off the list.

The Gov. issued us all with 10 when it came out cos it was shiny and they hadn't a clue. I know for a fact that of the 16 people in my department everyone of them knocked it back and insisted on 7 instead.

I copied over all the Windows fonts so it's nothing easy and straightforward. The problem is that lines break in peculiar ways and anything with heavy/fancy formatting in Word just ends up as a total mess. LibreOffice actually does a better job of preserving readability than does Word (running under Wine) but it fucks up the document enough that I have to work on my laptop (which still has Windows) but that's a total pain in the arse.

Just had a look and I can't see any Windows 7 drivers for my computer so perhaps the decision has been made for me. Thanks anyway.

Not unusual many people are resistant to change. I use windows 10 and rather like it. Windows 7 does not support DX12 and that is an issue for me as I am a gamer and like to have the most up to date graphics technology.
