Probably not a new Apple question.

If this has been answered before ....... and I have a feeling it probably has been .... then please forgive me.

iphone5s . 16gb of memory ..... and I've filled it with a couple of videos on holiday. So now I can't take any more pictures .

Can I take these videos and in fact all the music and photos out of the iphone and store them in my run-of-the-mill dead ordinary laptop which is not an Apple ?.
    It's just a Windows 10 Acer .

Can I do this ? And at the same time leave my phone cleaned out ? And if so - how do I do it ?

    I've tried . Honestly I've tried . And it's sending me insane .

    Fucking Apple !

    Hi Wasp,
I just usually go to an Apple Store, you could go online and book a time with the Genius Bar.Free.
The can show you how to do this or book for a free 1 hour Iphone course.

Apple staff are usually very helpful and friendly ..

    Cheers

The best place to get support for Apple products.

When you need a hardware repair, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar. For software or services, get help even faster by phone or chat.

Its not as bad as it once was when you needed iTunes to be able to do it.

Simply plug your iPhone into any PC, Make sure your iphone is turned on and unlocked with password and find your iTard device on your computer, drag and drop all your photos into pictures or wherever you want on the pc. Then delete all the pics off your phone.

    To delete photos in bulk......

launch the Photos app, navigate to the Moments screen, tap Select at the top-right of the screen, and then tap the Select link next to each batch of images you want to delete. Tap the Trash button in the bottom-right corner, confirm that you want to remove the images, and they'll be deleted

Maybe Genius bar can teach you how not to use moronic coloured text
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?

Dill is right on the money.

I used to have to do this process everyday before class... I'd save my worksheets, flash-cards, lesson plans, songs, games, etc... to my notebook - then have to transfer (through itunes) all those files to my ipad...

I bit tiresome, but I go used to it... sure, android is an open system, so you can offload your pics/goat porn oopss.. vids.. straight to another device (like a thumb drive basically)...

However, the software (here we go) is not as polished as apples.. i.e. more lag, glitches and poor ram management... don't wana start a flame war iphone vs android... just my observation/opinion.

Long story short.. yup, you must use itunes to connect to your device first, before you can transfer anything to/from laptop...

Exception being, if you wana get sneaky and use bluetooth to transfer files... that would only work well with smaller MP3 (audio files) not huge Mp4 video files, of course...

Oh, one more thing.. sometimes windows won't play nice and recognize your Ipad/Iphone once connected... disable your anti-virus, it can detect itunes as malware.. just a tip.

Haven't watched the videos yet but am about to .

I did read up on the net and got lots of advice saying use iTunes . Then found I couldn't download iTunes . No idea why .Maybe a 32bit laptop is difficult ?

And people saying use Windows Photo Gallery . So I goes to Windows Photo Gallery and it says I need Windows Essentials - which won't load .

    I just hate Apple.

Well you're right biff and thank you baldrick .

    It worked absolutely fine .

Thing is I always forget about Youtube .
I ask questions on the internet and get back written replies but I always forget there will probably be a Youtube video for the simple-minded such as I .

    Problem I think is solved.

    No. It's not solved !!!

I followed the instructions in that Youtube video and I was able to remove lots of photos and videos from the iphone and tablet to my Laptop .

    Good. Excellent in fact.

Then I set about deleting them from the Apple gadget to give me space . So some success BUT I realised there are photos and videos which are still on the phone but which don't show up on the Laptop . So I can't set about moving them .

The photos and videos are in 13 separate folders but as I say - not all the items are visible on the laptop . If I can see them in the laptop I can move them .

Any ideas why I can only see some of the pics and vids ? Please ?

    Thanks biff .

I followed them all and had no success.

For example ...... you can apparently open your photos using iTunes . It says scroll down the menu to " Photos " so I scroll down the menu and it doesn't say Photos at all .
    If it did --- I'd be fine . But it doesn't .

The problem is that no matter what approach I use there are 300 photos on the iphone but only 138 show up on the Laptop screen .
And it's not me alone .
On the internet are many many people who have 400 photos but can only see and transfer maybe 40% of them and have exactly the same situation as I have .

And nobody has found the answer .

don't you itards have some icloud or such nonesense ?

have you logged into your icloud and looked to see what has been backed up there ?

maybe after you remove from your idevice , they get repopulated by your icloud on your ithingy ?

keep watching youtoobe vids about your ihandyphone and you might learn some new stuff
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

In the end I found that all the photos were also stored automatically in Dropbox .

So I accessed Dropbox on a laptop .
Downloaded 2400 photos and videos to the laptop's Download Folder .

Opened that folder and moved them all by dragging them all to the Desktop .

Then sent them from the Desktop to an external Hard Drive .

.... and went back to Dropbox and deleted everything in there .

    Tedious .

There are probably simpler solutions . But it worked so I am contented with that .
There's a limit to how much I want to understand about technology . Just doesn't interest me enough .
