Malware Protection Live turned up on my computer this afternoon. I did not download or install it, at least not knowingly. But it's there.
I'd never heard of it so I did a quick Google search. The product has its own website but most websites referencing it have it down as malware of some sort. For example:
I checked my Downloads file and there's nothing there for today or even this week. I checked my Control Panel and it says the programme was installed today. So how did it get there? The only thing I did today was update and "upgrade" my Kaspersky Internet Security programme. Surely it didn't come bundled with that!Malware Protection Live claim to be a free anti-malware application, but in reality it is nothing else but another potentially unwanted program (PUP) that fits the criteria of bloatware.
Your first clue should be the fact that you probably have no idea where Malware Protection Live came from. PUPs like it often come through the installers of other programs – usually free software or installers for popular known programs that are not obtained from the officially approved sites. These infected installers distribute a number of other applications – often without even informing the user of their intentions.
It's annoying. I'm going to uninstall it later (Malware Protection Live).
Anybody had any experience with it?
