    Torrent Troubles

I've been downloading movies, TV shows and stuff for years, mostly from Pirate Bay via Bit Comet. Never had any problems at all up until now.

I recently downloaded two TV series. Dexter and True Detective. 8 whole seasons of Dex with each "season" being a 7-8 Gig download.

Today I find that all the downloaded files are missing. Just disappeared... WTF. I had copied a few of the downloads to a data storage stick, so all is not lost, but all of the files are gone from my computer....just like that, overnight.

Is there some kind of bounty hunter thing out there, wiping out downloaded files from torrent sites? Never experienced anything like this before.

    Any suggestions; solutions....???

Have you tried searching for them, or looking into hidden files ?

Download a single mp3 and see where it gets saved to

Ya recon if I get me foil hat out it will help me find them?...

Seriously, this is pissing me off. That's a lot of downloading. They are always saved to the same place....and they are nowhere to be found on the computer. Like I said, I've been doing this for years....never a problem till now.

There were all there just yesterday evening. I even watched a couple of episodes and everything was fine. Went to look this morning and every fucking thing is gone...:confused

Open up the settings in bit comet and check to see the file path for downloading files in going to the right place. If you d/l these then they are on your hard drive somewhere.

I dont use Bit comet so I cant tell you how to open the settings. I recommend Utorrent.

Try using the Windows Search facility and looking for *.avi

If there were all there last night, in the right place then the file path must be ok...right. They were there yesterday evening and working fine, and now they are nowhere to be found on my HD. BitComet has always been really good and nothing like this has ever happened before.

Not good advise as the files are most likely zipped but going to "my computer" clicking on your hard drive and searching for the name of the show should work.

Then someone in your household either deleted them or moved them.

Try a data recovery program to try and find them.

    This gets weirder and weirder.

OK I have found some of the file folders on the HD, but when I open them, there are no files except for one, which has all nine episodes and it opens and works.....

Some file folders (seasons 6 and 7) have totally vanished from the computer....they are not on the HD. A file search turns up nothing anywhere.

These are two of the downloads that I copied over to a data storage devise, so I have not lost them, but they are no longer anywhere to be found on the computer. This defies logic....... They were all there just yesterday evening....all nicely lined up in BitComet, all hash checked and working fine. I'm the only one with access to this computer and I did not do anything that I can think of to cause any of this.

So, in summary....some are still there. Some are still listed as a folder but with no files in it, and others have totally disappeared without a trace.

You obviously have never been on a private tracker. Most files are zip or rar and need to be unzipped before viewing using something like 7zip or winrar. Maybe that is not so on the piratebay but I don't use public trackers because they are for amateurs such as yourself.

Have you yet done a Windows Search for "*.avi" or "*.mp4"?

Because if you haven't I'm not going to bother with this thread any more.

And I'm assuming you haven't run out of disk space? Remember, some torrent clients will pre-reserve the disk space for you.

I've used Windows Search to see if I could locate the problem, but I don't know how to do the specific search *.avi or *.mp4 I don't want to fuck up anything fiddling around with stuff I don't know to do.

I have lots of disc space......I keep saying that everything was there and working just yesterday evening and somehow overnight that all changed.

That would indicate to me that something has happened to cause the files to get deleted, because if they had just been moved, they would all still be on the HD....and many of them are not.

Did yu mistakenly delete the files in bitcomet instead of removing them?
Not sure if you can, utorrent has that option.

    Else ....Pii

In file explorer just click in the search box and type *dex*.avi, or *dex*.mpg4 whatever file type they were.
    You can't break anything.

BitComet has a pretty specific procedure for deleting files, so not something that would be done by accident.

Thanks for the instructions. I tried both and did not break anything..........but I did not find the files either.....

OK that's it. I'm just going to download the lot again....sigh. At least I have a fair amount of the stuff stored on a data stick. Bloody frustrating losing so much though, and especially not knowing how or why.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help out.

    windows search is rubbish
I use this one. 100 times better

    FileSearchy Pro
eg search for it, at kickasstorrents
    safe torrent this one

    FileSearchy Pro v1.21 Incl Crack - [MUMBAI-TPB]

I can only get proxy sites like this one here
    Robot-free zone

    Dexter ?
maybe your comupter was being friendly, and censoring stupid serial killer shite to save you having to do it later .

Best get a seedbox, no more pissing about with torrent clients
just add the torrent hash key to it , and when it has finished, downloading to its server you direct download it to your computer via a download manager.
As seedboxes can upload at 4 mbps+, it gets the fastest download speeds in a torrent crowd.

eg justseed it very cheap and super fast , get good karma seeding lots back too
    https://justseed.it/

    20GB/USD$0.19 | 200GB/USD$0.99 | 1TB/USD$2.99 | 2TB/USD$4.99 | 4TB/USD$8.99 | 8TB/USD$11.99
can pay by card at the paypal landing page

And a free download manager -windows one aint up to the job .

    eagleget
EagleGet - EG Download Accelerator, Free Video Downloader and more

Why not pay for something when most everyone else downloads torrents for nothing.

    Brilliant advice.

Thanks for the advise Blue, but I have never found PirateBay to be pissing about at all. Used it for years along with BitComet and it has been totally satisfactory up until this little cock-up which is still a mystery. I get all the TV shows and movies that I find entertaining, free and without difficulty.

I've used other setups, but I personally like this one the best because it has always worked really well for me, and I can find just about anything on it.

Yep, everyone has their favorites, and they all seem to work OK. It's just whatever you get used to I suppose. There's a list of all the top sites for 2014 here on TD ranked by volume. I think PirateBay is the biggest.....not that it really matters.
