    Extracting Music from a Track

Is there anyone out there in the great and wise throng of TD Users who can point me to a really good Programme ?

I want to play a track ( Amy Whitehouse - Back to Black ) but I want to take out her fantastic vocals and leave myself with just the music .

It's very easy to confuse me with any computer facts .
" Have you switched it on ? " is about my limit .

So can someone simply tell me the name of a great and easy Programme wott I can rush off and buy for my needs here ?

    Please ?

Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

Very simple reliable audio editing software.

Top end programs if you want to really get into it are

    Logic Audio and Cubase

For DJ type software try Virtual DJ or Ableton or Traktor

    Thanks Albert .

We've met before over on the building Threads .

This programme - Audacity - I had heard of but I had trouble using it . I'll take your recommendation though and give it another go .

Can you - or armstrong - answer me another question that may look very simple to you but it gives me headaches ?
I used to Right-click on a photo and it would say " Send To " and among my options was always to send it to ' My Documents ' . Which is what I usually wanted to do .

But now " My Documents " is not on my list of options . I get things I will never use ... such as Skype and Winzip . I'll never be sending my photos there . I want " My Documents " to be as one of the options but I don't know how to do that and I don't know how I lost the damn thing in the first place .

What program are you using to view images?
Looks like you're getting a menu of options from a specific program rather than windows default menu

Maybe I get a photo from say Google Images or I copy one from Teakdoor .It downloads onto my Desktop . I used to Right click in that Desktop picture and it would say " Send To " and among the choices was " My Documents " which is where I would send it to .

Same with a photo that has been stored on a USB stick . Right Click and then " Send To " My Documents .

But now My Documents isn't there so I'm having to send it to Photoshop and save it again in a tedious way to get it to My Documents .
    That's a very slow way .

    I can do it ... but it's a pain .

What I want is somehow to get ' My Documents ' back into that ' Send To ' box .

    You're a very patient man Albert .

    ............. and with 5 Thousand Posts ! I've just noticed . Blimey !!!

    Assuming windows 7,
    1. paste %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo in the Windows Explorer address bar
    2. right click in the window,
    3. Select New Shortcut
    4. paste "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendT o\Documents.mydocs"
    changing username to your login

    BLOODY HELL Big Red !!!

    I'm scared to touch a key !!!!!

I've not done any of this yet and I'll need a drink before I touch the computer ... using a stick from a distance !
Tell you what - I'll have a shower and then paint the Living Room first then I will do as you say .

Does this transfer all of my 6 Thousand Baht savings to your bank ?

I'll tell you what happens --- if I survive .

When you say " Windows Explorer address bar " ... is that Internet Explorer ?

    If it is - I don't have it .

I listen to people who said evil peoples write viruses for Internet Explorer because it's such a popular site .
    So I dumped IE .

    CORRECTION ! I found it .

    Approaching now with caution .

If I'm doing this correctly there's something not happening .

I went to the IE page .

Put your code into the address bar at the top .

    Right-Clicked but didn't get that " New Shortcut " option .

Doubtless it's me doing something incorrectly .

For a long time when I was opening a photo in Adobe Photoshop I used to just go to ' Open ' and select my photo and it would open .

But for a while now I've been getting this box first ......

... and it annoys me .

Somewhere along the line I must have clicked something .
    I don't know .

But I never used to get this .I just click OK and carry on .

Can I go back to where I was without being asked this question every time ?

    And thank you .

To get back to the original problem, that of removing vocals from a song, Audacity is the only free program that seems to work. It takes a bit of time to set up and you still need to fiddle with it, to get the best out of it. There is, however, a plug-in for Audacity, that will do most of the work for you. You can download it here Free Voice Removal Software - Free Vocal Removal Programs

Be aware that you will loose some quality in the completed file! Best of luck.

*Edit* You can download the Audacity manual from the same place as the program, but it is well complicated.

Once you've seperated the track, you can use a function called "Normalise" on the whole track, this will push the sound wave to it's maximum power and regular radio -type volume.

As a side note you will find a huge amount of instrumentals and accapellas on youtube. Use this when you want to convert and download a track you find on youtube

here's an easy way Wasp, you could even get yourself a microphone and audition for Bettyboo and The Shifters after the wedding

Search for the tune you want and preview it here

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse karaoke backing track - Sunfly Karaoke

Search google for the album number torrent

To Loombucket and Albert and Dillinger ...... many thanks .

Without even attempting any of these things I can see that it will all answer my original difficulty . All of it .

But the problem has gone on to a shelf.

Because ............ all three of you have read the building Thread in which the last little episode was about Lady Pig .....and Lady Pig's brother .

    'Yeesipp ' .

    Missy's granddad .

Yeesipp passed away ....... last night .

    A good little guy .

    Sad time .
