    Dongles

May not be relevant to this thread, but will ask anyway.

Live at the end of no where { Emerald Triangle ] no phone lines, mobile every thing, bad or no signals
Have a dongle, i fox, have had others, same same, on a 1 meter USB cable for height, Dtec.

How can I get a better signal, how long/high can I run a USB cable, or are there better dongles.
    Thanks for ideas. Jim

    3 metres

buy a spider wok from makro , put a plastic pipe fitting in the middle and place your dongle there and use it like a parabolic antenna - I also used a cheap camera tripod

work out the location of your phone tower and home on google earth and get a compass bearing
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

But it seems to be working, can't be sure as the signal normally comes and goes.
Fingers crossed, but big rains will start soon, then signal makes not difference, no power. Jim

is it a spider web mesh wok or a solid steel one ?

how have you mounted the dongle in the centre ?

did you use google earth to get a compass bearing so you could aim it at the tower ?

Google earth was up dated 2008 , nets too slow for that. The wok was for cooking, as per link.
Will go to town and get a dish.
Trail and error, but not likely to have power for much more. Was of off 15 hours a few days ago, 4 hours yesterday and 3 out-adjudges in the last 2 hours.
