Gmail 101 How do I search?

It is probably me? I have 478 emails in my Gmail account inbox at least one of which comes from a guy called Jeff or Geoff

In my regular email service i have search function it will either search the Sender or the Subject or both or..

Gmail on the left of the screen has search function but doesn't seem to have any option unless i haven't found them.

So consequently I can't find jeff or geoff.
You should never allow yourself to be held back merely by not knowing anything at all about anything.

Have you tried searching for a keyword other than the name?

In the lite html version you have the left hand box with two buttons, search mail, or search google.
In the heavier version you have the Google search bar which just serches your mail.

Just type From:Geoff into the search field. If that doesn't find it then try From:Jeff

It does depend on which version of gmail you are using, mobile, desktop, lite or gmail app.

    Cheers that didn't work though.

In the end I went through half of the entries by paging back until I found Geoff. Typed in Geoff in the search box and still nothing.

Well feck me. I typed Geoff into the large search bar at the top which I had assumed was a Web search and bingo. Numb-nuts at Google why does it say Google next to it and not Gmail.

I've never searched any other way - just type in the snippet and hit the blue magnifying glass button - I have had gmail since 2004 , so have lots of mail , and none of it organised - but search and it is easy to find

Well I don't use it much maybe once a month. Because it said Google next to the box I never associated that with Gmail. I was looking down the side at the small search bar.

Would have been easier if the large search bar was tagged Gmail or if it simply didn't have Google there at all. But hey...

It sounds intuitive but with everyone an his wife trying to add their search bar to my browser. I just turn off..

Gmail has filter search for accounts incoming.
One might left click to find properties for each and every location.
