    Geeksters. Must-have freeware programs

What are the best freeware programs to have on your computer? I'm interested in antivirus and spyware, defragmentation programs or anything that will make my computer safe and secure and faster. Also is there an free program that is like Photoshop? Is there a browser which is better than GoogleChrome or Firefox? I'm interested in any freeware programs at all actually.

The Gimp is very good, not quite as capable as P-shop but not far off and free, lots of plug-ins and add-ons available to for various effects.

Following the death of my Vaio, and whilst it is getting fixed in the Service center (they stuffed up, it failed with a week left on the warranty the blood sucking vampires) and they are taking their jolly time about it as well, I have pulled out a really old Mac and using that. Now, nothing fecking works on it. Everything has auto updated and stoped working, so the most useful freeware I have found and use comes from Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com. You all know how these software firms update all the time and fuck everything up that you liked? Well here you can down load the version you like and keep it - can't roll back on a mac after all. So that is my little tip although I can't wait to chuck this fucking thing int he bin again.

Great stuff. I haven't heard of any of this except Ubuntu. I tried Ubuntu 12.10 but I kept getting error messages. I want to support alternatives to the tech giants out there but the error messages were too much for me right now. I'll look into Mint.

Not sure what sabang has posted (death or bunta) but I will google those names and see if anything comes up.

I think I'll download the GIMP program thanks GC.

Never heard of the site Giveaway of the day or Osalt.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Majorgeeks is a huge smorgasbord of freeware and shareware in all those categories you'll see on the left of the main page.

    MajorGeeks.com - MajorGeeks

I scroll down that main page regularly, to read the "Way Off Base" news threads. Something wacky added once or twice a week.

I just steal them all the software from torrent sites usually KAT , there is helpful community feedback from other thieves there .
I love figuring out the different crack methods and some can be quiet convoluted , but better than doing crosswords.

I had gimp before but it always took ages to load the fonts, hardly intuitive,
    but then neither is photoshop

    good free progs ?
    ccleaner as mentioned

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

revo unistaller - makes sure no crap is left when you remove a prog .

I use an Eset legal version of antivirus and spywareblaster. I haven't used antispyware stuff for a while. I wonder do spybots or the other spyware programs have the same value these days as they did in the past? How many people are still using them in addition to other programs?

I use majorgeeks most of the time, too, LD.

I also use openoffice, NEcron. I tried paint.net but didn't like it so I still use the pain that comes with windows.

    Ubuntu's cool. No problems.

I really want to give ubuntu my time but as I said I couldn't handle all the popups of errors that were coming up. Hopefully it will improve. It was defnitely faster than windows starting up and shutting down and while using it. When I have no other choice once my windows 7 becomes too old or when they have a better ubuntu, I will try it again. It's shameful but windows just works best right now at least for me.

I haven't tried glary utilities. I'll look into that. Not sure what it is, WJ.

I've seen that Revo somewhere before. Don't think I need it right now. Thanks anyways, blue.

G U cleans up my cache and registry mostly. It's good at removing unwanted crap that slows down your machine. CCleaner is maybe better and faster w/cache and registry. I use 'em both once a week.

    here's the latest 2 , progs I downloaded
    both torrents with cracks

    http://kat.ph/ivona-1-6-3-tts-britis...-t6165469.html
    Ivona
    452 MB

Good text to speech reader -
highlight the text and its read aloud to you ,
here via British Amys posh and sexy voice , not perfect but much better than windows Microsoft Anna .

Crack difficulty - medium - as you have to shuffle back and forth a bit .

Best decline the widgets during installation -annoying RSS news feeds etc.
and install mini reader too, as shrinks down to a nice small toolbar.

Working good and handy ,as one of my eyes hurts a little today , to read out the long posts here .

    Next

    Ace translator-
Enter the text - say English into one box -and it translates it eg to Thai and
and will also read it aloud in Thai or English .

    http://kat.ph/ace-translator-10-4-0-...-t7220324.html
    3 MB

easy crack- just extract the files from the .rar file
(free progs available online if you don't have one )
    and run
    Ace translator.exe

If you like it, make it easy to find by , right clicking , Ace translator.exe , then click - send to desktop (create shortcut)

only downside - needs internet connection to work

Auslogics registry de-frag is very useful and free, the Auslogics internet optimiser is also well worth a spin.
Butterfly will be along soon to explain what a registry does.

I like the text readers. Not sure if I will use them but they are interesting. Probably good for Thais who can understand spoken word but who are not so good readers.

Thanks for the registry stuff too. I use ccleaner because it's generally fast but I've kind of settled into my ways now for years. A change might be what I need.

I use Ccleaner regularly, and Auslogics registry defrag occasionally.
Avast AV, Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D keeps it germ free.

A free proggy called convert.exe. I'm American, and of course many times I have to convert weights and measures of all sorts. This little proggy does it all and quickly.

Here's a picture of it and a download link. Note the many tabs for options.

I fancied a change from CCleaner, and got one called SlimCleaner. Nice.
