what laptop

I wanna spend up to 30,000 baht.

My needs will mainly be internet browsing, light gaming, downloading and watching movies and music
Ive looked at those ultra books but there are drawbacks to having slim, ie they dont dissipate air quick enough.

Ive looked at the Macbook pros, too expensive for what you get IMO.

And all this i3, i5, i7 processors stuff , an i5 will do me i think , better battery life and less heat than the i7 i reckon

So, i have 2 Lenovos in my mind at the moment

Y580 and Y480

Although i might wait for the Y500 to come out in December

Anyway here are the Y480 specs

I like Dell, but that's my personal preference. I stay away from Lenova due to its owner and manufacturer being China. X-IBM owners shit canned it.

I have had Dells for almost 20 years now and am only on my second one for personal use. Try them out. I have a Inspiron 1525, 15" screen. Good product IMO.

I've had a Dell without fault for too many years, have seen friends Sony vaio's come and go due to faults in the meantime......

Effectively you are buying a processor with an interface so make sure you are getting the latest generation, otherwise you are paying top dollar for a chip that has already been superceded.

i3-i5-i7 for instance are now into their 3rd generation and each of those chips have a choice of specifications. The laptop you buy may have been manufactured with previous generation and sat on a shelf for you to buy.

In most cases consumers are looking for a label without checking the contents as it were, and the seller will happily shift his old stock at the same price as the new.

So, if I want to buy a i5 or i7, how will I know it's really an i5 or i7?

As you note, it will say it on the box, and also on the computer specs, right?

But it may not be?

Am I understanding this correctly?

Might as well get the latest version of the processor as it probably costs the same money,
I have a cheapish samsung notebook but it has the i5 processor and it whizzs along.
They sell the same new model, but with several different processors it's confusing ,,

I think you can tell it's the 3rd generation rather than the 2nd by the numbers after the i3 / i5 / i7
ie with a 3xxx number rather than 2xxx

The point is they are all genuine Intel chips, but different versions depending on how old they are.

Moore's law states that microprocessors double in complexity every two years.

It is a minefield, but there is an easy way through it without trying to understand the criteria of technical benchmark tests.. check out this site Novatech they custom build their PC's on demand, so they always use the most up to date tech.

Look at how they couple up the different components to suit a particular requirement or price range, and then look for similar components in the laptops that you are considering.
