    Removing Viruses –Admark Alert

    Removing Viruses –Admark Alert

A couple of nights ago, I ran my virus scanner to find that my computer had become infected with some malicious, intrusive virus called “Admark” (or something with a very similar name ). A quick search of the internet told me that this virus is particularly dangerous, as it’s capable of stealing passwords and other confidential information from my laptop. This all rang true, because the day before, my hotmail account had been hacked, even though I have a relatively strong password. According to the net, this particular virus can only be removed manually by somehow purging my computer’s registry. Being a computer novice, I have no idea what a computer registry is, or indeed, how to purge it.

In the last 24 hours , I have re-scanned my computer several times – using the latest version of AVG together with its most recent updates – to find that my computer and its registry is now clean and show no sign of that pesky virus, “ admark”. I’m still not really sure that this virus has actually been removed and that it is not sitting in my computer registry quietly resending my confidential to some dastardly hacker.

To the more computer literate on this board, how would you suggest I check my computer to confirm that it is now free from this sort of viral infection and what can I do to prevent such an intrusive event from happening again ?

    Thanks heaps

    Roderick

I'm with Mid. You could well have adware that's telling you you're infected to try and get you to click on a link.

I would also download and run Adaware.

My PC had been running slow lately, so I ran Malwarebytes on it last night on a full scan.

it found a Trojan, this thing MSIL

Read about it here if your clinically bored
Remove TrojanSpy:MSIL/VB.M Virus - How to Get Rid of TrojanSpy:MSIL/VB.M Permanently - Tee Support Blog

Anyway Malwarebytes got rid of it and the PC's running fast again

    It's free too

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com

What you want to get yourself as well is C Cleaner, it cleans your registry, deletes all your temporary internet files and other stuff and keeps your PC running smooth.
    It's free too

Use it once a day, you only have to click one button

    Sound advisories, Mid.
Both reasonable...spybot can be universally accepted as a worthy tool when installed - but doesn't remove everything. Decent protection, nonetheless.

Yes, a caveat should be attached when using hijack-this.
The geeks use this one often, as it is principally directed for your browser.
A decent support staff and forum....for advice and what ails you.

Sometimes running your AVG in safe mode will allow it to delete the virus or malware. Some viruses cannot be deleted if they are running. Booting into safe mode only loads a few necessary drivers. To boot into safe mode keep pressing F8 as your computer starts and it will bring up a menu. Just select safe mode and as said run your anti virus again.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !
