    Memory leakage

I have recently encountered an phenomena called memory leakage.
My android Galaxy tab 7" will get down right glitchy and suddenly freeze up completely.
Shut her down and restart she's a peach again. Apparently after googling my way to nirvana I gather the the phenomena of memory causes the device to glitch and enventually freeze up..
    Curious I reckon.
I think I might trade this device in before the memory packs it up completetly.

Download 'GO Launcher' App, much better UI. In the aps menu there's a tab 'running'. Just click that tab 'close all'.

There's also plenty of task killers, just search 'task killer', some are automatic, most are manual.

I lot of apps run in the background, especially if you have a widget for them. Others stay open after you've opened them and then got out via the home button.

There's all things like syncing google, etc, and all these things add up to RAM usage and when you're 80% RAM full it will be sluggish. Good Android management is to make sure only apps are running that you want / need to be and don't have un necessary services or syncing.

There is a 'task manager' widget that comes with it which shows 'active applications'... If you have things open that you don't need the battery life will be shorter as well as memory usage.

Stick it on your home page.

^ Yeah that's the one I use, though doing it through the app menu in Go Launcher is the easiest way for clueless old farts like Mr Earl

Yes an Iphone would probably suite the OP better. You need to get 'technical' to get android to perform well.

Even when I go into task manager and close apps and clear memory the device remains unstable to point of being unusable at times.
I probably will get rid of the android tab in favor of a netook or a MBA. For some reason the android OS is more stable on the galaxy s1.

what version you using Mr Earl? Go to settings, phone info and it should say 2.1, 2.2 etc. You might need to upgrade OS.

If anything the update on the tab made it more stable.
Updating the galaxy s1 helped a bunch. Especially after I'd let some idiots at the cell phone shop in Argentina mess with it.
I reckon I will pitch them both and go with the iphone.

Of course it did. Good rule of thumb is that whatever advise you get from buttplug do the opposite.

You probabaly just have a bad app.
memory leakage is not a problem with the hardware, It's an app or process that is reserving memory and then not letting go of it when it is done.

could also be some worm or virus, some dodgy apps on Android Market can be carriers of such worms

do a complete reset of the original kernel, dump the update (above all if it's not an official one) and start with apps that have been "reviewed"

in some ways, the wonderful iPhone does shield retard users from such practice

HYou need to at least install 'lag fix' if you can't spend 5 minutes installing a decent ROM. The stock is crap and laggy. Lag fix will change the file system from ext2 to ext4 and you will immediately notice you phone zipping away like never before.

If the device gets turned off at least once a day the quirkiness is minimized.

install and use Go Launcher. When it gets laggy, clear your dropbox, go to apps menu, running apps tab, and 'close all apps'. You'd be amazed how many apps run forever after you sue them once.
