Red Dead Redemption isn't suitable for an 8 year old (murders, hangings, suicides, killing wild animals) life in the Wild West was fairly brutal .. but Rayman Origins is perfect for 8 year old's of all ages

Check out other suitable games for him at IGN.com

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

^ Cheers Neo, he asked about some game called -------Nightmare.

He won't like that, and I won't buy it him. I played The Thing late at night once for 10 minutes, also Resident Evil put the willies up me.

I will admit though that he did like GTA and bashing whores on the PS3(chip off the old block)

However, he enjoyed Little Big Planet 2 on the PS 3

Is that a new game Neo ?

All I can see in the top 10 are War or strategy games

Rayman Origins came out in November 2011, so yes it's fairly new. I've played the demo and it's awesome, the graphics, gameplay and effects are slick and very addictive. It's had top ratings across the board and I'd be very surprised if your boy didn't love it.

Could be the Alan Wake American Nightmare game that he's referring to. It's an Xbox live arcade game and is only available via download through the xbox live network, although it's probably cheaper than a regular game

Thing is of course with the more violent games is that kids his age have access to the info on these games, but how many actually have access to the game..? It's all about playground bragging rights, and a lot of hot air.

If you have the xbox connected to the net and have xbox live with a gold membership it's possible to download and review just about all of the latest releases. And of course it's possible to play online against his friends, FIFA 2012 football would be a great game for that, but ask him what games his friends play online. There's a lot more to gaming than bashing zombies heads in.. although that is great fun too.

Set the filter to 'last 12 months' to get a good idea of what's hot

    Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. A follow up to the 2004 hit Red Dead Revolver, this game tells the story of former outlaw John Marston, taking players on a great adventure across the American frontier.
Red Dead Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore, including frontier towns, rolling prairies teaming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes - each packed with an endless flow of varied distractions. Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.

    Publisher: Rockstar Games
