Hong Kong with the Thai Girlfriend

Getting out of Dodge and will be visiting Hong Kong during the first week of July and I’ll try to post some pictures; with a description, of the places we visit.

If you do plan to visit Hong Kong with your Thai spouse she will not need a visa (if she is going to stay 30 days or less) or will you if you are an American (or most anyone else for that matter, can get a 90 day visa upon entry). If you have any doubts about a Visa, try this site: The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department It might answer any HK Visa questions you might have.

This will be our second trip to Hong Kong. We did a short visit last year while we were touring the NE area of China for a few weeks. I enjoyed Hong Kong while there last year visiting some of the major tourist attractions (not any of the amusement parks) and would like to see more of the city and what it has to offer. We’re thinking on spending more time away from Thailand, maybe six months in country and six months out and we’re looking for some nice extended stays in different places. Hong Kong might be one of those places if things go well during this trip and if we’re able to find out more about longer term vacation rentals.

This year we will be staying on the island (Wanchai District) and not in the Kowloon area (where there seems to be a small Thai population), as we did last year. There doesn’t seem to be any hotels on the Stanley/Repulse Bay area of the island (where the beaches are) so we will be staying on the west side of the island overlooking Victoria Harbor which is the business center of the island.

Some places we might visit during this trip are Repulse Bay, SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong (during the evening), Tai O Fishing Village, Lamma Island and Aberdeen Harbor. I am sure we’ll visit a few markets (Stanley, Ladies and the Jade Market) and Kowloon (for Thai food) again, during this trip.

We’re going to try to use their public transportation system as much as we can and I’ll try to get pictures with information/costs on how we did it and how easy (?) it is to use.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

^It is indeed. The only times I ever spent more than a day or two there was when I was visiting Brit friends who were HK coppers. They had great big, subsidized apartments, and knew every place in town with a cop discount. If you're on your own, it's very pricey. And, the more interesting, but out-of-the-way, places are hard to find unless you have a guide with local knowledge.

I was there last year and stayed in a hostel room with en suite that was 4 meters by 2 meters total size. Cost around $40 Aud which wasn't bad for Hong Kong .

The room was quite comfy actually As the TV, A/C and hot water cranked.

Public transport was Great using the Octopus card, food on the streets was not to bad and beers at a 7/ 11's OK.

Small local restaurants had some good food at reasonable prices,On the other hand go to a pub or a proper restaurant and its friggin expensive.

I'm going back in December with a friend and this time will stay in a good hotel and just pay the money.

I went last year too, and didnt think it was too bad price wise. All the touristy stuff was quite expensive (like nong ping), but overall, I thought day to day living was reasonable.

The UK is bloody expensive too.

If you live in a developing country like Thailand or Australia, you really feel it.

I love going to Hong kong with the Thai mrs because she starts asking people
for directions, asking what Soi is such and such place in,generally making a tit of herself like I do in her beloved Thailand.

Fair point. Mind you, with the state of the exchange rates, Thailand is becoming expensive for what it is.

It's becoming more expensive regardless of the exchange rates.

The girlfriend will usually keep a running expense while we are on holiday and I’ll post it after the trip to give the reader an idea of the costs.

I will not post our airfare and accommodation costs because that could vary with every visitor and their wants.

^Will you (or you and your family) be in town during that period? If so tell me when and I’ll make reservations at a restaurant in the area.

Yep, pulled the place from Trip advisor, Unfortunately I ain't got the name . Place was great for the price and right outside the M.R.T surrounded by everything one needs plus the eye candy was awesome. Brilliant if traveling solo but no go for couples unless ones a scank backpacker with only 20 cents to ones name.

Some very exotic looking creatures in Hong Kong.

Heres my single room, 2 meters by 4. Spent 10 nights there and it served me well providing Sat TV, cold aircon and steaming hot water. Bargain for Hong kong.

If it was in Mongkok you had everything right on your doorstep. Used to live near there, Kadoorie Avenue was the area I resided at for awhile.
I should pop back for a visit.

Great bed design Terry. Even if you fall off the top bunk after a few expensive HK beers you get a nice soft landing

Yes another in-depth question regarding my handsome feet but its a fair question so I'll answer it.

I do shave the hairs from my toes but only every other month when I combine it with shaving the hairs from my balls.

    Thanks for asking.

Mongkok was a brilliant area to stay in as everything was accessible and the action on the streets was entertaining to say the least.

7/11 at the bottom of my gaff sold Guinness so I knock the head of a few whilst looking at the sexy bitches.

I thrive in environments that are full with people and life so this was right up my alley, being my first trip to Hong Kong I was most Impressed.

Easy to blow out 2 weeks just cruising around the city taking in all the markets and tourist stuff. Looking forward to going back in December.

Must crank up a thread showing the street life, got the pics.
