Well yes, physical gold in 1oz coins in Europe. I can't take them with me to Thailand because of import duty so need to get rid of them before I go or stick them in a safety deposit box. I was going to sell some this weekend but decided against it.
I will keep the gold I have in Thailand. It'll keep for several rainy days that'll catch up with me at my age.

My advice would be to buy a top 100 company share package. Not sure the exact deal for the UK, mine is with a French bank. The return is not the highest but is reasonably safe. Goid and bad oeriods even out in the long term and interest is usually better than current bank saving rates. 3-4 years is a good investment time, but not sure of UK tax to take into account when selling.

There are probably different risk/reward packages available. I had two before (at the same time) in the UK; one got me 4% in a year, the other got me 16% in the same period.

I'm sure I read something about a Thai company that disappeared into the night when the price hit B50k. Turns out they weren't holding as much "gold" for customers as they thought they were.
