If it's a hardwood shouldn't matter much. Soft woods like pine, etc. can warp really bad if not seasoned first.

Pine is a hardwood, a fast growing hardwood.

Softwood is wood from conifers (pine, spruce, etc).

Hardwood is wood from deciduous trees (oak, cherry, etc).
