Actually i am quite looking forward to this shopping experience. Hope my optimism is borne out!

Plenty of shops in your area & close enough to Bangkok to have a good choice, when we moved up to Udon I was surprised how little choice there was, abysmal to say the least, we don't have a lot of furniture in the house! can't find much up here i want to live with everyday, regretted including contents when selling previous houses.

Although we had some furniture in the house, all paid for by a previous employer (thanx, L&T), it was nothing special...nothing i would really want to keep (apart from mattress and TV) so it made sense to sell it all.

So.. a 'clean sheet' but I am not familiar with Thailand shops anywhere. Of course Ikea for cutlery, some crockery and cookware - they are v good for that. i am less enamoured with their large furniture though some is OK. but Ikea is not really for us for furniture. lol. its too modern. the bed frame we saw in Lamptitude could probably be re-created by a good woodworker (I am an average woodworker), but for things like sofas, upholstered items, etc i really dont know where is good or otherwise....

and where does one source antique items? never see anything like that for sale, never see an 'antique' or bric-a-brac shop..

I gave up looking for affordable 'antique" type furniture years ago, very few shops selling, in fact Norton's link is about the first one I have come across, I have always figured that in the past quality furniture was made in such small volumes that there is none available?
There used to be a huge mall in Ban Kapi that primarily sold furniture, sure it is still active, not cheap though for quality.

There are some shops along Kamphang Phet (?) road near Chatuchak market that sell “antique style” stuff.
”Chinese House” a few Kms away from there for slightly pricey Chinese stuff. And of course there is River City .....

Norton I took a look at Paul's antiques but everything I liked.. he already sold!!

Paul has his staff out always searching for items. Stock is updated faster the website is so a visit to the shop is the way to go. All sorts of stuff there. Suggest you give them a call or visit.

Furnishing a new home takes time and leg work especially in your case. Most of the large furniture stores not likely to have the pieces you want so you need to take your time and poke around to find.

I found Chiangmai the best place to find the sort of things you are looking for. I picked up several bits of furniture and display pieces there. As with you, modern is not my thing.

My point here is do not rush to get all your all square floor space filled. Get your master bedroom and living room first and the rest as you find pieces that flip your switch.

Boundary wall update

Here's some shots now he is closing access to the ChonBuri Hilton

You remember they had this other entrance so they could drive up to the camp...


They built the wall but left out some wall panels


The wall is finished apart from this 'gap'. Note the boundary landscaping too...

Well... tidying up the patch more like but still, it adds to the image.





We will plant that fruiting, thorny bush along the outside boundary.

I was also thinking about 'forming a kerb' at the grass / road line. not trying to gain land you understand, just formalise the line.....

Nice, i think PJ will enjoy this part, good if you can take your time. Some people feel they have to fill a place asap but i've always thought taking your time and buying good pieces and ones that have memories attached through travels and bespoke items mean more in the long run - kinda like IKEA - fill the place quick and end up throwing most of it out in a year

Lol I have told her to go start thinking abut the sort of pieces she wants in the home. note thinking about not me agreeing to,,, maybe i will though...

Priority to sort out beds and living room seating - i am envisioning three sofas around one of those low, square Lanna style coffee tables, preferably teak and with some inlay. i will glass the top to protect it for... well coffee stains, etc!. we already have 2 TV's, and a small fridge to start us off.

Whatever works for ya. Though, I might opt for a fence/wall design that allows for sitting on one's stoop and watching the world go by.

yeah... we will be doing that ' watching the World go by' thing too - from the comfort of our balcony, looking over the palm plantation to the fields beyond.

Couple of steamer chairs and a small table for the drinks,,, yeah,.. reckon I could get used to that.

Not really missing passers-by cos its really rural.. a couple an hour tops and usually in a vehicle.

I agree with your sentiment, but nearly five years in the NE I have yet to find one piece! been looking seriously for a dressing table for the last six months - nothing!

A2 you'll have to get one commissioned if you can get the design and or photos.

We get nice cool winters but the summer gets warm, humidity still low so not so bad!
