Le Jazz Et La Java (Claude Nougaro)
Another old man doing great rock. Mark Knopfler.

The Killing Moon - Echo and the Bunnymen on BBC Radio 6. What can I say about this song that hasn't been said already....I don't actually like it all that much to be honest - All My Colours, now that's a good song....And Villiers Terrace, Crocodiles, Crown of Thorns....Pretty much any Bunnymen song I prefer to The Killing Moon....still it will be finished soon thank goodness....not long now....There!
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!
The Kinks - Word of Mouth
Sonic Youth - Silver Rocket....Still on BBC Radio 6. Clare Grogran is presenting the show. A very nice voice....talking a lot of nonsense, but in a very nice voice.
Clare Grogan! I remember her from Gregory's Girl.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood

Incredible String Band
The "Earthspan" Album. I think cheesy would be a good description. Haven't listened to this album for over 30 years. Every track is a little gem. An acoustic band from the late 60's with very clear lyrics. Nice change.
Ballroom Blitz - The Sweet...."The man in the back said everyone attack and it will turn into a ballroom blitz...."
Patti Smith - Horses....."When suddenly Johnny gets a feeling he's being surrounded by horses, horses, horses, horses".
A true classic. What a feat of artistic endeavour - no 3 minute 'I love you you don't love me' trite nothingness. How would you even begin to start to write a song like this.
Danbo; as my contemporary music mentor, is there anything that's been released in the last year that I should be downloading?
^I'm well behind the times marmers. I was hoping to pick up some music in LoS, but the night-market in CM seemed to just have variations of the greatest hits of Bon Jovi. I did buy a few CDs at Kaosan. PJ Harvey's (White Chalk) stood out as mighty fine. The Arctic Monkeys sounded like....the Arctic Monkeys - I can't even remember the others I bought they were that forgettable.
I know that you previously poo-pooed my recommendation of The National, but from memory that was based on the new Boxer album - Try the Alligator album; it really is one of the finest albums I have ever heard....For one track try Mr November.
OK, but this is your last chance. If it's still rubbish I'll do something nasty like force you to live in a bedsit in the UK.Originally Posted by danbo

Just now it was Rock Lobster by the B52's
but now I am suffering 'Doctorin the Tardis' by The Timelords
Both National albums mentioned are good but, in all fairness, if you didn't like the Boxer you'll not like Alligator either.
I notice you've been listening to Elliot Smith a few times on this thread Mtd, one of my favs for a long time. So... some similar(ish) suggestions for you;
Fionn Regan - The End of History
Fink - Distance And Time (A bit pop, alright in small doses)
Elvis Perkins - Ash Wednesday
Josh Ritter - The Animal Years (not his latest album but a good starting point)
Scott Matthews - Passing Stranger (Not really like ES but he's alright, sounds a bit like Jeff Buckley at times)
Arizona - Fameseeker and the Mono (Nice harmonies, good unknown band)
Nothing really new there... but you might find something to your liking.

Solo Boys (Charlelie Couture)
I listened to Mr November. 5 out of 10.Originally Posted by Tao
I think I DL'd that album for a mate of mine. It's ok. I'm not usually into the acoustic stuff. I do like Jeff Buckley though. Is the Scott Matthews album ballsy?Originally Posted by Tao
Shirley you mean 10 out of 5....
Try the song again but this time sing along in the front of a mirror with a hairbrush as a microphone...tip: you can affix the hairbrush to a broom-handle for greater effect - This is how I listen to all music these days....gets some strange looks on the bus I can tell you.
I'm listening to BBC 6 Music, by far the best music radio station I know of. The 6 Music Chart Show (available on-demand online) is a good show for picking up on new 'non-chart' music. The Marc Riley show is also worth a listen.
Anyways at the moment it is Thomas Dolby, Blinded Me With Science, which to be perfectly honest is crap.
BBC - 6 Music - Homepage
Bit of a mixed bag really, that album. A few acoustic ballads, some bluesy slide guitar numbers and other stuff that's a bit pop. It's an interesting listen if nothing else. Download Dream Song or Elusive from the album for a bit of the Buckley vibe.Originally Posted by danbo
Flicking through my itunes library i picked a few others that are worth a listen or two - some very old, but still sound fresh.
Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West (shouty punk where they keep bending their guitars out of tune, Johnny Marr plays with them now but this is a long time before his arrival)
Liferz - Blood on the Wall (think Pixies)
Tokyo Police Club - Lesson in Crime (sounds like Strokes might of sounded before they were famous)
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - (Catchy choppy pop rock, surprising they are not that big. BTW, i'd call this ballsy!)
Islands - Return to the Sea (think Blur on LSD, this a bizarre album - one of my favs. Probably not for ACDC fans though)
^ Hmmm... after Danbo's dud recommendation, I think I'll stick to stuff I know.
Fair enough then... errr, this 33rd album by these ballsy rockers may be right up your alley.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
