For me the best ever music programme. In the days before MTV and FM radio in the UK. This was the place to hear music you couldn't hear anywhere else outlside of John Peel. All performances were live
It is a 4 dvd set and I am watching it little be little so as to savour it.
The first DVD starts in 1971 and so far there have been perfromances by Captain Beefheart, Lilte Feat,Tim Buckley, The Wailers,New York Dolls, Roxy Music, Alice Cooper & John Martyn. I remember watching some of the performances at the times especial The Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein and Focus
The presenters at the time tell the occaisonal anecdote which add to the experience.
For instance The Wailers performance was their first live in the UK they went on to play Leeds Uni. Then it snowed and they culdn't find any veggie food so back to Jamaica
John Lennon agreed to do the show. It required a BBC contract. All artistes had to be paid. The fee for John Lennon in 1975 - 15GBP - the standard fee but this was altered at Lennon's request to 4 packets of Chocolate Olivers whcih he could not find in NYC
I only wish it were 40 DVD's and not 4.
