LIVELY JAZZ WITH ROOTMAN
KATHMANDU: High-energy of funk, groove, jazz, RnB and soul influenced jazz hit the hall of Moksh hard on November 2. Straight from Thailand, Rootman made the day of jazz enthusiasts with their sound.
Their performance from the first to the last on the second day of Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2012 was of entertainment, learning and ecstasy.
“I think people liked our music and we are happy about it,” Pongstorn Chirawatpongsa, saxophonist of the band expressed about their performance. And he was right — action speaks better than words. Many were enjoying the lively beats, swaying their heads while people applauded and cheered when the musicians played and improvised their sets on stage. And by the end of the show, the crowd had got up from their seats to put on their dancing shoes.
Why wouldn’t the crowd enjoy so much? “We have put our hearts out into our acts. We made it together,” Phitchayan Tabtim, another saxophonist, shared. He also informed that “the band members are like brothers”. And in his first visit of Nepal, Tabtim is “impressed at how the country is treating us”.
The ensemble grooved the audience with original and cover pieces like That’s More Like It, Moving Forward. Two sets performed by Rootman comprised instrumental solos, duets along with their lively group acts. It was a total package for jazz enthusiasts. From awesome horns sections to DJ effects to powerful drumming to precise piano to hippy bass, the performances of Rootman was a sheer pleasure for the audience and artistes.
Musician Yuvash Vaidya found the work of Rootman “very original and new”. He got to learn about “attention to details” watching Rootman’s creative play.
Another audience, Jyoti Singh from Bouddha shared, “This is my fourth year being a part of Jazzmandu. I wanted to listen to Mongolian playing jazz music” adding “The start was powerful”. Furthermore, she expressed that she liked the sound of the saxophonist in the band.
