Thread: Two hard drive set up question

make sure to select "Auto" in the BIOS for Primary Master and Slave, Secondary Master and Slave

Also make sure that the second drive switch pin is not in "stand alone" or "master" switch

and finally, make sure the switch pin is on "Slave only"

Thanks y'all for all the help. The drive did come up in management as unallotted with the full 40Gigs showing. Seems it was unformatted when I redid XP. Happened to me once before to a thumb drive. I should have disconnected it before the install. Mel was right, deleted! The only way I figured I could get to it, know as little about puters as i do, was to plug the black into it, disconnect the primary and insert an XP setup disk. When prompted to format I said yes then right after escaped the setup. It's shows up as drive F now, blank but recognized all the same.

I got some software that will probably recover all the data

your data is still all there if you only did a quick format - just need to recreate the FAT

if it is critical that you need to do this , we can walk you through it

If it had 20 gigs of data and now it shows 40 free space how could it still be there? ntfs it was, ntfs it was formatted to in a quick.

quick format only destroys the road map , the houses are still there .

IF, you for any reason had your secondary disk set to restricted access it will be impossible to use it after a new install of XP without having the computer name, your logon id and the password exactly the same as before.

Been there, done that.

Mine shows as Local Disc C and the second shows as Local Disc D and a lot of pics and old files are on it.
