Horrifying scenes at Calais 'Jungle' as woman migrant slashes her wrists after police grab her male companion: Refugees brandish metal bars and hurl rocks at bulldozers on second day of violence


Standing next to a man on the roof of a camp dwelling in the 'Jungle' campsite in Calais, the woman warned police not to approach - but cut herself (pictured top and bottom left) when officers moved forward and arrested her male companion. She too was then detained and although she remained conscious during her arrest (centre), her condition was not immediately known this afternoon. The dramatic standoff came as around 100 makeshift homes in the so-called 'Jungle' were torn to the ground or burnt yesterday (top right), and bulldozers are set to continue their work all this week. It has led to riots and disorder that required French forces to deploy tear gas (bottom right) as well as increased attempts by migrants trying to get to Britain as quickly as possible.

If I see "asylum seeker" with face covered, I automatically assume wanted by the law or already kicked out for not meeting the criteria.

They'll all go back to Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan now their shelters have been destroyed.... Of course they won't be wandering the streets like the walking dead. What good does this do except for getting rid of an eye sore?

I believe they are only going to remove a small portion of them to move them elsewhere. The whole 'camp' should be removed and it shouldn't have been let to get like it is now. Ridiculous.

They are being offered they own Container...when they are full they'll ship them back

Toughening things up makes it fairer for the genuine asylum seekers and harder for the piss-takers.
Europe is in a bad situation caused by the US led EU.

If they were genuine asylum seekers, they'd claim asylum in France or whatever was the first 'safe' country they arrived at, not be waiting for months on end to try to get to Britain.

Too little too late by the French ... as always.

The French should designate their ports as military zones and shoot those without reasonable cause to be there.
Once a few Somali, Nigerian, Bangla, Afghan piss takers are shot and hung up on the barbed wire fences to act as a deterrent, a la dead crows around a farmer's field, we might see a resolution to this absurd phenomenon.

Every single one of those pieces of human jetsam has journeyed through Italy, Spain or the Balkans and are not asylum seekers in any sense of the word and all of them would be refused an application by the UNHCR.
