    Explain the difference please

What is the difference between a group of people over throwing their own government and taking back their country to free them from corruption and oppression

    and

Another country invading a country with a democratically elected leader to free them from oppression and corruption

These were both done in the name of democracy.

SO why is the rest of the world so upset with Thailand and it's government.

How long was Iraq under military rule after the fall of Saddam?

    Good point, mrsQ.

I think that the US does not understand the real issues in Thailand & is venting a lot of hot air. Many Thai friends have asked me in amazement why they US & EU are so angry with what has happened & cannot understand whey foreigners insist on meddling in Thailand's internal issues.

I feel that both the EU & US need to listen & look before just shooting from the lip. What Bush has done in Iraq is criminal - he has no credibility left to point the finger at other countries. I think that Taksin had them bamboozled.

it wasn'y the people who overthrow Taksin but yet another bunch of corrupted and oppressive ruling class in Thailand.

there is no difference between that situation and aggression from outside, like in case of Iraq (btw Saddam Hussain was established a ruler in Iraq not by the democratic election but by the CIA). In Iraq there is now more corruption and oppression then it was before, the country is in a civil war.

the governments of many countries might be upset of what happened in Thailand because they did know about or did not order (as often is) the military coup.
    not for spamming

I see a big difference. It's about foreigners vs. some of your own. Invade is from the outside in.

it's not about 'foreign' or 'own' or 'freedom' or 'democracy' - it's about money.

The ruling class would react only when their interests are endangered or when they want to expand their political and economical influence by control over land, resources, trade or strategic communication routes.

In Thailand the military, police and royal part of the ruling class believed they are loosing the total control over the country - the previous military coups were consulted with an American ambassador, this one not or was against his will. Thus sanctions.

In Iraq the former agent of the CIA decided to start ruling and selling oil on his own instead of listening to every word from Washington - he was warned during the 1st Gulf War and then taken out by the 2nd Gulf War.

On a more general note - the capital doesn't have a country, it goes wherever the profit is. The ruling classes are cosmopolitan - and patriotism is for the workers-soldiers to work harder and die aimlessly.
