You will pretty much have free rein to write about anything you want as long as it has to do with expat life in Thailand. Read over our site to get an idea about the type of articles we are looking for (Expat Rockstar — Expat and Travel Magazine for men).

You will be paid 25 bucks an article, I can deliver the writing fee by PayPal once a month or however you prefer

Please email me at james[at]expatrockstar.com if you are interested

For submissions please email us a short outline so we can give you the go or no go

    Thanks!

    James Grey
The site is well designed and acceptable as a new site.

It should improve with more content and refinement as time passes.

There are, however, quite a few competitors out there, i.e., sites catering to gogo barhounds: bangkok eyes, etc. Such sites appear to appeal to first-time SEA male visitors, or those who for whatever reason never get beyond the gogo bar stage.

These sites run the risk of becoming in effect pimps for the gogo bars, if they are paid by the bars to post the photos with the names of the bars. The photography is good, but the site seems to have a lot of pics of Indonesian bar girls. We can surmise that the bars named have paid James Grey and his friends.

One should never trust a girl who works at these places as far as you can throw a baht. Never turn your back to her in your hotel room, never go with one when you are drunk. Always take your wallet with you when you go to the bathroom, even in your own hotel room.

If James Grey wants to be associated with this scene and knows it, and if he knows that we know it, then there may be opportunities for droopy-eyed cynics to do business.

Its $25 more than Teakdoor or Thaivisa editorial pays to its photo-journalists. Its right that supplying web content deserves a modest reward.

Fair play to him. I shall bookmark his site.

It looks a pretty good website.

Not to belittle you James, but for the everyday Joe who wants to see his name on an article it's probably okay.

For those of us that are used to getting $400 for an article, it's a bit small.
somewhere i heard or read that Hunter S. Thompson was getting $10,000 per article. probably plus expenses.

i worked as an extra in cambodia on a french film and got $40 per day. that was big potatoes to me then. still is, actually.

    it's all relative.

Not to sound like I am bragging but I worked as an IT contractor in the Middle East for almost 10 years and saved a few mil. So a free 3 dollar beer at some gogo isn’t really going to sway me towards an establishment (I actually don’t go to gogo’s – but I do go to clubs/bars).

The reason why we have so much stuff about Indonesia is because I have lived there for several years and I know lots of people in Jakarta who I recruited as writers, I have only been in BKK for 3 months – that’s why I am here looking for writers.

For a writer, he seems a bit iffy. What's this 'allot' word he keeps using to mean 'a lot'?

He's used it in posts here and it's peppered all over his site too.

    Doesn't he know the difference?

Wonder if he's one of these who also uses 'everyday' instead of 'every day' ...

(Q)Some of the stuff here doesn’t look edited and is poorly written, don’t you people edit your work?

    (A) No, if you want perfectly written articles buy Life Magazine or give me 1000 bucks every month to hire a proofreader

This is a potty read for your lunch break, not Shakespeare

Isn't it just? And I can do worse, much worse.

However the point which apparently eluded you is that his e-mag is also shallow, not well written (waddya expect from people who will write for 25 US? That's 15 quid or so, not worth switching the PC on for) and if the boss can''t get it right, what hope for anyone else?

I note you didn't remark on his use of 'allot' for 'a lot'. You another Merkin masquerading as a Brit?

At least 3 errors in the 2 Q and A sentences above.

Q - The usual simple, ubiquitous, one of a comma used as a full stop. Trust a Merkin, although Brits are as bad.
A - No comma after 'articles' and no full stop (although the latter could have been a cut and paste error by Mr Expat JG). If I were being strictly accurate, I'd suggest another comma after 'Magazine', although others may disagree. Even my standards have slipped since being here!

As to 'potty' read, if it was a printed mag, I wouldn't wipe my arse on it.

What he means is 'I am both incompetent and lazy, so get fucked'.

No, I'm Thai, masquerading as a Brit, I also have not visited the website in question as I know it would be of no interest to me personaly.

Fair play to anyone who wishes to write in though, people do it here for free so why not get $25 for it - เข้าใจ?

Oh FFS, I'm a millionaire, so I don't need you lot anyway.......

    throwaway line man.

we dont care, fuck off elsewhere if you wanna be like that.

I think the biggest problem here is that you are trying to 'poach' posters/writers away from Teakdoor, I'd imagine that the Admin might have a few words to say about that.

Actually, I always thought that 'allot' was something to do with bandwidth management, I may be wrong though.

A few million what? Pounds, dollars, baht, kip?

I go with KW here - no need to brag. However rich you might want to feel you are, you can't write for shit, so maybe you should get some education before publicising your next ego trip.

TEFLing pays me between 50-75 grand a month (or is used to until recently), so I am not complaining.

At least I am competent in my job.

'Allot' is a verb and one can allot anything that can be shared. It is not an expression of quantification.

I see you speak binary. How about hexadecimal?

As not everyone is as financially well off as you, retired at 39 you mentioned, $25 per article is a nice little hobby income . . . I fail to see what's wrong with that.

Your vibrators only cost you money and those penicilin shots for your syphilis infection also cost money . . . lucky you're wealthy.
