Thread: An evening stroll in the country

Everyday I go for a 4/5 Km stroll/jog with my dog. Being a pitbull she needs the exercise and being a fat bastard so do I.

Leaving the house, which is nicely shaded by a small banana tree plantation



Just round the corner there's a temple hiding behind the greenery



The rivers and canal's are full at the moment. Been chucking it down recently.

where is it?

The same river a bit further up. I've seen reticulated pythons and monitor lizards here


Carrying on up the country lane



A scarecrow doing its best to keep the huge amount of storks and herons at bay



These canals keep the paddy fields nicely irrigated

Cheers. Yeh, Pythons are very common round here. Makes the walk a bit more interesting!

bit different to those heady days of central Lamaii and the infested jungles of Baan Tallingnam. Looks a lot like Kamphaeng, what with the water and trees and stuff. Ever been tempted to invest in a strimmer to chop the greenery down and put in some nice concrete?

On occaison yes, but I prefer to watch people do it these days.

seems like you need to invest in a chopper to take a relaxing ride along those little lanes and search further afield

What do you do to pass the time? Is their many farangs around?

Good pics, reminds me of my own gaff, except we have a busy market.

Where, I live Udon there are about 15 houses all the same family, and all BiB or work for Gov , Car, licence, tax, etc.

The chopper would be very nice but the trusty Wave is sufficing at the moment.

First and foremost I work, so that keeps me busy the majority of the time. On weekends and holidays(like now), I take the bike out and have a damn good look around or just bugger around on the net.

Quite a few in the nearby town and obviously my colleagues too, so i'm not without western conversation ,which in my opinion is a necessity.

Nah man I really like my neighborhood. You just convinced me to stay in it for a while longer. The Gekos I don't mind,the Toaky under the stairs; I've grown fond of. When he comes out I talk to him. The occasional frog in the dishwater if we leave it over night? All OK. It's the scorpions and snails I could do without. Snails cause they get everywhere. And the scorpions? Well because they're scorpions.

All-in-all a decent way of life. You saved me from a terrible mistake (like I hat a chance in hell of wining the argument )

And don't forget the shoes - they love my bloody shoes.

I really hate the frog in the shoe trick. It feels really gross. But still better than a spider or other biting bug.

The dog is my motivation behind the length and regularity of my walks to be honest. A word of advice to unfit types - buy a dog that demands a walk everyday. Pitbulls also have a knack of making you feel very guilty should you choose to shun the walk (well, guilt or fear).

Cheers. Just got back from my walk. The farmers are harvesting the crops in a few of the fields using those big ol machines.
Talk about efficient.

^Effiency is something needed when you have more work than you have workforce.

Being in the middle of excellent rice growing conditions means the soil's rock solid. You pound one of those thai shovels (job) into the earth and it bounces back at you. I've done very little myself so it remains a jungle of banana trees. Like I say, they are very good for shading the house and my potasium intake

good stuff, I like the picture of the scare crow the best.

You didn't happen to get closer to it & snap a picture? That would be a great shot! A close/medium shot of the hat w/ the water & rice field in the background.
