Below is a link that has an interactive map of the US. It has the number of electoral votes in each states, probablilities (which now are very close and some up in the air) and also the result of the 2004 election.

National Electoral Vote Poll averages as of today.

    Obama/Biden 313
    McCain/Palin 158
    Tossup 67

If McCain and Obama both continue their current campaign strategies, it is looking like Obama will win in a landslide.

McCain cannot afford to lose FL, VA, NC, and OH.

If he loses ONE of these states, he'll lose, IMO.

Not looking good for the McCain camp.

Other stats reveal the GOP may be severely beaten in the House and Senate.

    We'll see.

Yes. Play it safe. No gaffes, which he doesn't do.

Have a rapid response team so he can repudiate these false, nasty allegations UNrelated to policy.

And....the stock markets in Europe and Asia were down a bit, and in the US retail sales were down:

This "Joe the Plumber" caricature is just another fake charade:

Officials of his local plumbing union, which has endorsed Obama, say he falsely claims to be a union member. "His MySpace page uses the logo of our local from Columbus," said Thomas Joseph, business manager of Local 50 of the United Assn. of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry in northwestern Ohio. "My phone's been ringing nonstop today with union members, friends, family, everyone asking the same thing: 'Who is this guy? Is he Joe the Fake Plumber?' "

Joseph was doubtful that Newell Plumbing & Heating generates $250,000 a year.

"There's no way that Al's business is worth that much," he said. "We all know Al. He's licensed. He's a regular guy. But Al runs his business out of the garage that's behind his house. It's small."

Cheryl Schimming, a permit specialist for the Lucas County Building Regulations Department, which licenses plumbers, confirmed that Wurzelbacher does not have a license but that Newell does hold an Ohio license. But Wurzelbacher told reporters, and Schimming agreed, that because he works for a licensed plumber, he is not required to have one.

Joseph said that Wurzelbacher applied for a plumber's apprentice training program in 2003 and took adult education classes. He said Wurzelbacher never finished the program and never received a license from the city of Toledo or Lucas County.

    FLORIDA:

Obama bets big on Florida turnout

His campaign believes he could win the state if Democratic voter registration gains can be converted into actual votes.
By Peter Wallsten, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
    October 17, 2008
MIAMI -- Barack Obama has sent five of his most senior operatives to Florida -- two of them to focus on the single county that includes Miami -- for the duration of the presidential campaign, in a newly sharpened strategy to win the election by driving Democratic voter turnout in the Republican-dominated state.

The big bet on Florida and Miami-Dade County, Obama aides say, is based on the campaign's belief that it has secured enough supporters to win the state and must now ensure that those supporters get to the polls -- in contrast to states such as Ohio, where the campaign believes victory depends on persuading more voters to support Obama.

    • On Thursday, Miami-Dade County disclosed that Democrats had added more than 94,000 new voters to the rolls since January, compared with about 21,000 new Republicans. Democrats' gain came partly from the Obama campaign's major voter registration efforts here. The party has also made large gains statewide, though final numbers are not yet known.

Now the Obama campaign believes that it can win Florida -- and, therefore, a majority in the Electoral College -- by turning these voter registration gains into actual votes. In addition, the campaign has identified more than half a million African Americans and hundreds of thousands of young people statewide who were already registered but did not vote four years ago. That year, President Bush undertook a major GOP voter-targeting effort and secured a victory margin of about 380,000 votes.

"The demographics of Florida have lined up better for us" than in some other battleground states, said Steve Hildebrand, Obama's deputy campaign manager, referring to the campaign's outreach to African Americans, who are numerous in Miami-Dade County. "Ohio is more about persuasion. Here it's more about turnout."

In addition to Hildebrand, who is now focusing almost entirely on Miami-Dade County, the officials sent to Florida include the Obama campaign's liaison to the national Democratic Party and its senior or No. 2 outreach directors for African Americans, Jews and religious leaders.

Four of the officials are working out of a third-floor suite in a Miami Beach office building, and one, national party liaison Paul Tewes, has joined the campaign's state headquarters team in Tampa.

The Obama staffers are arriving in Florida just as both parties are placing final markers on the electoral map, signaling where the last battles for voters will take place before election day. The Republican National Committee, for example, decided this week to stop its presidential campaign advertising in Wisconsin and Maine to concentrate on holding more traditionally Republican states.

Some Florida Republicans have been grumbling in recent weeks that John McCain's campaign has not kept pace with advertising and grass-roots activities in the state, which has been dominated for more than a decade by the GOP in presidential and state-level races.

Obama aides have said they planned to spend $39 million to win Florida. But some Republicans think the total expenditure will far exceed that amount, given the countless Obama ads they see on television, the Obama spots that play even on country music stations -- which Republicans tend to target -- and the campaign's paid staff of nearly 400.

"Obviously, we're not used to being outspent," said Al Cardenas, the state's former GOP chairman and an advisor to the McCain campaign. "This is new. Now we're getting a sense for how the other side has felt."

Hate to do this again, but will all of the attentnion that this fake "Joe the fake Plumber" is getting here are at least 3 facts about Joe:

McCain discovers plumber no ordinary Joe

By CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN & AMIE PARNES | 10/16/08 8:00 PM EDT

After making Joseph Wurzelbacher famous, McCain learned 3 key facts -- Joe owes back taxes, isn't licensed and Obama's plan would cut Joe's taxes.
    Photo: AP

NEW YORK – John McCain hung his final presidential debate performance on an Ohio plumber who campaign aides never vetted.

A day after making Joseph Wurzelbacher famous, referencing him in the debate almost two dozen times as someone who would pay higher taxes under Barack Obama, McCain learned the fine print Thursday on the plumber’s not-so-tidy personal story: He owes back taxes. He is not a licensed plumber. And it turns out that Wurzelbacher makes less than $250,000 a year, which means he would receive a tax cut if Obama were elected president.

McCain likes to say that he isn’t George W. Bush – and in this case of bungled public relations, it is clear he is not. The famously-disciplined Bush campaign operation would likely have found the perfect anonymous citizen to illustrate a policy proposal, rather than spontaneously wrap itself around an unknown entity with so many asterisks.

Joe the plumber is but another example of the missteps within the McCain campaign. It is clear the campaign did absolutely no vetting or verification prior to having McCain bring up Joe during the debate. Inexcusable!!

Just an observation. Several times now, McCain has staked his campaign credibility on a gimmic. Now a gimmic is easily digestible, and you can make convenient sound bites and campaign slogans out of it. But, in McCains case, the Gimmics just do not stack up, and end up detracting from his credibility.

    Examples-

Sarah Palin "Hockey Mum"- turned out to be very damaging imo. Just nowhere near senior enough.
Bill Ayers- "associating with terrorists". Obama sat on a Charity board with Ayers. That charity board was sponsored by a staunchly Republican family foundation (they support McCain ), and several Republican party members sat on the same board. Like, big deal.
And now- Joe the Plumber- how many times did Joe come up in the final debate? Turns out, Joe is not a licensed plumber after all, and earns nowhere near 250k, unless he steals it. He's full of shit, and it turns out to be yet another poorly researched McCain campaign gimmic.

After the election, there will be time to reform and rethink. I really hope the Republican Party stops this populist, sound bite approach and starts treating Voters like they are intelligent, thinking people again.

They deserve to have their arses handed back to them on a plate in these elections for several reasons, not least of which is their nausaeating and repetitive tactic of aiming their campaign at the Lowest Common Denominator.
