^ I didnt really have any idea, but i did a quick goole and found the free application in the the link below. It looks like it has some useful features too. No harm in giving it a try, and yes, trading with play money right now a a great idea given the chaos out there at the moment!

Ok lets add some more stocks to this thing. First up Schlumberger (symbol SLB) this is an oil fields services companythats been beaten up by the recent sell off but has strong fundamentals and a good future ahead of it.
I'll take 200 of those at todays closing price of 82.64$

er , maybe a read of this article might remove some sheen from the bullish outlook

Oil market collapse waiting to happen
    By Chris Cook
Sitting on this base of physical trading is an off-exchange complex of price risk consisting of the simple forward BFOE contracts themselves, a host of derivative contracts, and an increasing number of "structured finance" transactions. It is estimated that in total, some $260 billion was recently invested in oil markets one way and another, and this pool of funds was superimposed as an inverted pyramid of risk on this relatively tiny base of physical crude oil.

    if today gain/loss is +16,000

does this mean you were actually -21,000 for "since purchased" yesterday ???

jesus, talk about a risky portfolio with those 20% swings, you better make up for it when there is a rebound

At one point about 2 weeks ago it was over well over 35K, until I added more POT and MOS and they bounced FCX is a complete bag of shite though.

Never mind eh, its not like its real money

Today was going ok until the financial sector tanked again. Dow fininshed nearly 400 points down so it was back to square one. Did manage to hold onto some gains though.

Can I just reiterate my position of complete capitulation and recommend selling everything (even the agro-chem stocks that will do better than anything else...)?

    Anyway, as you were...

^ Noted I got a finger firmly on the sell trigger believe me.

Did you know that POT bottomed out at 137$ and recovered to 180$? I got in in real life at average 143$ and am nearly ready to jump off but what with oil going up, these companies follow oil.
But yes, I can envisage total capitulation within the next month or so an am monitoring things minute by minute with trailing stop orders already placed.

    ^ Ahem yes well...err I'm busy

    "Mosaic (MOS:67.51, -0.51, -0.7%) shares slid 20% to $55.23. The
company's fiscal first-quarter net earnings jumped to $1.18 billion, or $2.65 a share, from $305.5 million, or 69 cents a share, in part on climbing potash prices. Foreign currency transaction gains totaled 13 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet Research were looking for $2.83 a share. Sales more than doubled to $4.32 billion from $2 billion, and were higher than the $4.05 billion estimated by analysts"

Hmmm, looking forward to the screenshot after today. Markets all over the world down between 4 and 17%. FTSE down 300, DOW futures at -220.

I think that the DOW could fall below 10000 today unless something brightens up the picture.

STO might go down to $17 but I'am sure it will be up in the $40 soon.
I call STO my family stock because its for the long run. You know the part with "buy a stock and take a sleeping tablet for 10 years".
Nothing to make a quick buck but now is defintely the time to buy this stock because it is way undervalued.

^ Agree, the baby has been thrown out with the bathwater so to speak. lots of opportunities are starting to present themselves for the brave. I wont be going back in with real money but might add more to this thread after i see what happens when the short sale bans ends this week.

If you only invest money in well managed companies that deal in necessary things like food, medicines, hospitals that you can leave sit until 2010; then you should start getting good returns as many stocks are undervalued by 2 to 4 times minimum. Patience means lots of money here.

Agree, thats where I'm looking. Its difficult to pick the bottom but there has to be a time when you average in. Someone said yesterday that picking the bottom is like "catching javelins at the olympics"

Butterfly, with regard to the SET. if you have an account in your own name, is it possible that the Thai authorities can class that as working without a work permit? is trading/investing here on the list of banned occupations?

I would agree with that, but we are a long way off IMO.

Correct IIRC. I recall a case where a tourist was advised to 'leave his laptop at home' to prevent suggestions of 'working' whilst on holiday here. He was a day trader.

I don't believe so, again IIRC...

absolutely not, it's actually encouraged by the SET

and no tax on capital gains, that's the beauty of it. Investing is not working in Thai laws, and working for yourself is also not regarded as "labor" as long as you don't sell anything here,

SET has a lot of bargains, for the first time since 2003, the dividends are high and the prices dirt cheap
