Harmless, RC. Completely harmless . . . You should be ashamed of yourself berating and not trusting a mother of five, who bakes apple pie for her church every Sunday, takes her kids to baseball - oh, Alaska - hockey . . . . dodges bullets on the front lines in Iraq and regularly looks at Russia to become more aware of foreign countries.

This lady is close to a national icon and you disparage her . . . she even supports the Bush doctrine . . . it's also her world view.

Cease, man! This is a woman we are talking about

It seems a few people besides RC are disparaging a national icon, and in her home state too.

ANCHORAGE (AP) — Hundreds of people protesting the policies of Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin lined a busy street on Saturday, waving signs and chanting "Obama!"

The protest came about two hours after Palin delivered a rousing speech at Anchorage's new convention center before leaving the state to return to the campaign trail. Palin was named John McCain's running mate on Aug. 29. This was her first return since then to her home state.

The protesters, including supporters of presidential candidate Barack Obama and those who don't agree with Palin's positions on abortion, polar bears, Iraq and other issues, lined one side of the street near Anchorage's main library building.
A much smaller number of mostly pro-Palin supporters were on the other side of the street, chanting "Sarah! Sarah!"

Police were at the scene, but there were no immediate reports of clashes.

Your probably right rc... it sure didn't good over too well for Hillary did it? if she hadn't personally claimed (instead of an aid mispeaking) that she was ducking snipers bullets in Kosovo she would probably up there intead of Sarah.. I know that stings a bit...

first of all, no it didn't go over well when hillary exaggerated what happened in kosovo. she was called out on it as she should have been.
secondly, i'm sure it does sting clinton that she's not still in the race...but it doesn't 'sting' me in the least. why would it?

Taking care of five children and especially one with Down Syndrome is a hard task!
And now she wants to take care of America?

actually it's 2:00 PM if were a drinker i don't think it would be too early necessarily.. a beer with a nice barbecue might be fun for quite a few people.. it is sunday after all..maybe even a tailgate or 2 if I were in the states at this time of day on a sunday....

Pretty rich coming from a German, innit? Oh ya, Merkel studied physics (oh, she must be so well trained for politics) and is married but with no children to have to tend to around the cooking fire.

while herman and i rarely agree, i think he has brought up some points worth discussing....

what kind of person decides to run for vice president weeks after having a child.....especially one that will need so much extra attention.
those with daddy/mommy abandonment issues can feel free to post their own sob stories, but from where i sit it seems pretty callous that she's just leaving this kid for somebody else to raise.

and once women in america realize what this palin actually stands for....in sarah palin's america, victims of rape and incest will not have access to abortions....they'll be embarrassed that they even considered voting for her.

it seems sarah palin thinks rape victims should have to pay for their rape kits.

She and Palin have much in common. Both have an understanding of the "big bang". A theory for Merkel, a practice for Palin.

This kinda straightened it all out for me., Now I kinda know whats going on and what to expect.

The problem is, that argument does not fly. Its bounced right back as "sexist". If it was her husband running (for example) the issue would simply never be raised.

Its clear that the Obama campaign is having trouble handling her, and have yet to work out a coherent strategy. They have to focus on her positions - which, in America are equally devisive. Her stand on abortion will attract as many voters as it does turn off - thats politics I suppose.

The one approach that would have some chance of working I think is to sick Hillary on her. One would assume that even not as VP, Hillary will have a significant role in the case of Obama's election - an if anyone can handle Palin, it would be Hillary. There seem to be fertile grounds riasing doubts about palin (trooper gate etc), as well as er basic stands on religion etc etc.

Quite frankly, the woman scares me.

Some good ole U.S. politic laughs. She is almost as good as G. Bush.

Charlie Gibson started to earn his pay when he asked Sarah Palin about specific national security issues, like the situation with Russia and Georgia.

Gibson: "Let's start, because we are near Russia, let's start with Russia and Georgia. the administration has said we've got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore the Georgian sovereignty..."

Palin: "First off, we're going to continue good relations with Saakashvili [President of Georgia] there. I was able to speak with him the other day and giving him my commitment, as John McCain's running mate, that we will be committed to Georgia. And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure, in terms of invading a sovereign democratic country, unprovoked is unacceptable."

Gibson: You believe unprovoked?

Palin: "I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia under the leadership there..."




Gibson: "What insight into Russia's actions, particularly over the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of this state [Alaska] give you?"


Palin: "They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."




GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?

PALIN: In what respect, Charlie?

GIBSON: The Bush -- well, what do you -- what do you interpret it to be?

PALIN: His world view.

GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war.

PALIN: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better.

GIBSON: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

PALIN: Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend.

all in due time. when an unknown is rolled out like this, the first thing both sides try to do is 'define' that person.
over the next few weeks i think we'll see the obama campaign try to bring the focus back to mccain...but if that doesn't work and the spotlight stays focused on palin then they'll bring out all the facts about her positions on the issues....including forcing rape victims in her town to pay $1200 for their rape kits.
