All in it seems the Palin interview was a success, in that that main goal was to “do no harm”, and I don't thing she did any. Sure the red team would have loved for a home run like many felt her convention speech was, and this interview certainly was not. However, going into this I am sure the main focus was to make sure she did not strike out – and that she did not do.
The bits that I have seen, and read about don’t have any big-time gaffs. She did stubble a bit when asked about “the Bush doctrine”. I believe like most of the blue team folks seem to believe that she indeed did not know specifically what Gibson was specifically asking about – the US "authority" to carry out first strikes to defend the America. That being said I think she handled that situation rather well. She first asked Gibson to clarify, and when he failed to do that, she gave a basic overview type response. Once Gibson clarified the question and specifically asked about first strike, I think the Palin response was decent – that a first strike was acceptable if a strike against the US is “imminent”. That being said I think this was the biggest stumble of all the bits and bytes that I have seen so far.
The second biggest questionable response was related to her pointing out the geographic proximity of Alaska to Russia. I really hope the red team gets this type of response under control. Alaska’s proximity to Russia has fvck all to do with much of anything – except maybe the weather.
I don’t see any problems with her response to the US going to war with Russia - as it relates to a furture Russian attack on Georgia. The question was framed around Georgia being a part of NATO, and then if Russia attacked Georgia would the US go to war with Russia. Well that is kind of the whole point of NATO – if someone attacks a NATO ally that all the other allies would step-up to the plate.
Even her response to the “task” fof God was a decent response IMHO. I don't think she fully answered the question, she kind of reframed the picture. But really with the general religious nature of the US populous I think this one is a non-issue for most anyway.
"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion" - Steven Weinberg
I think thats it in a nutshell.Originally Posted by Butterfly
The intensive 'schooling' that Palin is receiving about national secirity matters, policy and how to respond to the Press- whilst being effectively kept quarantined from the Media- must surely raise questions, even within the Republican base.
She really is someone who would have benefitted from doing a term or two as Governor, then moving to federal politics for a while before making her tilt. Frankly, just too junior right now.
Great interview, once again Palin slam dunks it!!! McCain is a genius and will be president elect in a few months time.![]()

I only saw bits of the Gibson interview. I thought it cheeky that he opened with "do you think you are ready to be VP and even POTUS" (I paraphrase). Fek, nobody asked Obama that. Haven't seen the Russia QA yet. Taking Bugs word for it.
This question is almost always asked to VPs, and Presidential candidates.
She also is unknown, even still.
It's only been about 14 days since she was tapped to be VP.
Frankly, it's a bit saddening that there is all this focus on a VP, because there are serious issues that will affecct the US in less than 10 years, and these issues are still ignored.
............
^ I think it is a Republican (or Rovian) strategy. Fluff over Issues suits the McCain campaign well right now. One has to ask though- will it last?
I would think the Obama campaign will be smart enough to drive their strengths in both the real Issues that the US faces, the Bush trainwreck, and rather sideline Sarah to the status of a Vogue Magazine article- it hardly requires hammering home the inference that she's a Gadget for the McSame campaign, not qualified VP material (Yet).
Yes, it seems like Rove's palm prints are on the McCain strategy.
I think BO could have and can do a much better job at highlighting issues, that can benefit his campaign.I would think the Obama campaign will be smart enough to drive their strengths in both the real Issues that the US faces.....
He is not doing this.
As for "real issues" BO cannot do much: SS involvency, Medicare, etc.
There are no answers. It's a cancer.

I think Biden wasn't asked this because he's been in the Senate for 30+ years. He ran in 1988, and again last year. He's an old hand.
I don't like any of them. It's all about special interests.I've got mixed thoughts about all of them now.
There will not be any change, or a symbolic new face, and a new cast of bureacrats, department heads, and a new Press Secretary.

^ Press sec? I hope they get that chick from The West Wing.![]()
But the questions should still be asked of Biden, because he dropped out in '88 after he was caught plagiarizing, and bearly made a blip this time around. So why if he had to drop out the first time around, and got bearly any support this time around would he be considered fit to take over should anything happen to Obama.
The US decided two times that there were better people availible to run our country, but now it's ok to give him a shot should something happen to Obama?
The question should still be asked - just phrased a bit different. To include why if the people did not think highly enough of him the first two times he thinks he is up to snuff now?
she's spent the last two weeks cramming for this exam, and at best she was average.
here is the transcript for the questions on the 'bush doctrine'...
clearly she was involved in beauty pageants at a younger age.GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?
PALIN: In what respect, Charlie?
GIBSON: The Bush -- well, what do you -- what do you interpret it to be?
PALIN: His world view.
GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war.
PALIN: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better.
ABC News: EXCERPTS: Charlie Gibson Interviews Sarah Palin
let's just put it out there....not only is she not qualified to be president, she's just not that bright.
as much as i want obama to win, in the interest of the future of america, i'm willing to let mccain take a mulligan and choose again.
for better or worse, that's the way it works bugs....perhaps you haven't noticed that there isn't much in the news about the keating five?Originally Posted by Bugs

Can you provide any info in addition to the pics of Palin's stance on abstinence.
I've read she supports abstinence programs, but does she support and/or oppose any others?
Milky I just dont know what the woman stands for. They wont let her talk. I feel these cartoons are just as good as talk. Plus I am bored.![]()

I think she handled her first interview as VP nominee quite well. She showed her steely nerve and ability to think on her feet.
Especially the part about god and Abraham Lincoln, that shut Charlie up!
And WTF gives with the stupid Bush Doctrine question? Of course it might confuse her.
The so called "Bush Doctrine" is a term coined by a certain political pundit. It is not any official government policy.
Face it RC your team is in desperate catchup mode.
This fireball of a governor is hitting them out of the park!![]()
GIBSON: Governor, let me start by asking you a question that I asked John McCain about you, and it is really the central question. Can you look the country in the eye and say "I have the experience and I have the ability to be not just vice president, but perhaps president of the United States of America?"Did he ask BO that question?
heh..thought not..![]()
A Deplorable Bitter Clinger

A mission from God . . . how very reassuring that a potential 'leader of the free world' has an evening hot toady with God . . .
What gets me about freaks like this is the audacity they have doing anything in the name of God or in God's wishes.
I am presuming that she and I share the same God, but mine doesn't think it is right to invade, kill etc . . . So, is she praying to false Gods? Is she speaking in tongues?
(Well, at least I don't think so, it's been a while since we knocked back a sake or two . . . or did I only see him after seven? Semantics)
so what is her husband saying about her banging his business partner, and possibly the whole black neighborhood ?
