All in it seems the Palin interview was a success, in that that main goal was to “do no harm”, and I don't thing she did any. Sure the red team would have loved for a home run like many felt her convention speech was, and this interview certainly was not. However, going into this I am sure the main focus was to make sure she did not strike out – and that she did not do.

The bits that I have seen, and read about don’t have any big-time gaffs. She did stubble a bit when asked about “the Bush doctrine”. I believe like most of the blue team folks seem to believe that she indeed did not know specifically what Gibson was specifically asking about – the US "authority" to carry out first strikes to defend the America. That being said I think she handled that situation rather well. She first asked Gibson to clarify, and when he failed to do that, she gave a basic overview type response. Once Gibson clarified the question and specifically asked about first strike, I think the Palin response was decent – that a first strike was acceptable if a strike against the US is “imminent”. That being said I think this was the biggest stumble of all the bits and bytes that I have seen so far.

The second biggest questionable response was related to her pointing out the geographic proximity of Alaska to Russia. I really hope the red team gets this type of response under control. Alaska’s proximity to Russia has fvck all to do with much of anything – except maybe the weather.

I don’t see any problems with her response to the US going to war with Russia - as it relates to a furture Russian attack on Georgia. The question was framed around Georgia being a part of NATO, and then if Russia attacked Georgia would the US go to war with Russia. Well that is kind of the whole point of NATO – if someone attacks a NATO ally that all the other allies would step-up to the plate.

Even her response to the “task” fof God was a decent response IMHO. I don't think she fully answered the question, she kind of reframed the picture. But really with the general religious nature of the US populous I think this one is a non-issue for most anyway.

The intensive 'schooling' that Palin is receiving about national secirity matters, policy and how to respond to the Press- whilst being effectively kept quarantined from the Media- must surely raise questions, even within the Republican base.

She really is someone who would have benefitted from doing a term or two as Governor, then moving to federal politics for a while before making her tilt. Frankly, just too junior right now.

I only saw bits of the Gibson interview. I thought it cheeky that he opened with "do you think you are ready to be VP and even POTUS" (I paraphrase). Fek, nobody asked Obama that. Haven't seen the Russia QA yet. Taking Bugs word for it.

This question is almost always asked to VPs, and Presidential candidates.

She also is unknown, even still.

It's only been about 14 days since she was tapped to be VP.

Frankly, it's a bit saddening that there is all this focus on a VP, because there are serious issues that will affecct the US in less than 10 years, and these issues are still ignored.

I would think the Obama campaign will be smart enough to drive their strengths in both the real Issues that the US faces, the Bush trainwreck, and rather sideline Sarah to the status of a Vogue Magazine article- it hardly requires hammering home the inference that she's a Gadget for the McSame campaign, not qualified VP material (Yet).

Yes, it seems like Rove's palm prints are on the McCain strategy.

I think BO could have and can do a much better job at highlighting issues, that can benefit his campaign.

He is not doing this.

As for "real issues" BO cannot do much: SS involvency, Medicare, etc.

There are no answers. It's a cancer.

Thanks for noting that all candidates are asked the "are you ready" Q, but I didn't hear anyone asking Biden that.
I've got mixed thoughts about all of them now.

I think Biden wasn't asked this because he's been in the Senate for 30+ years. He ran in 1988, and again last year. He's an old hand.

I've got mixed thoughts about all of them now.

I don't like any of them. It's all about special interests.

There will not be any change, or a symbolic new face, and a new cast of bureacrats, department heads, and a new Press Secretary.

even if Barrack is considerably younger than McCain and not likely to knock off due to health issues anyway, but health issues often don't show themselves until pressured to do so and no job carries more pressure, so it's a toss up..

I think she handled her first interview as VP nominee quite well. She showed her steely nerve and ability to think on her feet.
Especially the part about god and Abraham Lincoln, that shut Charlie up!

The so called "Bush Doctrine" is a term coined by a certain political pundit. It is not any official government policy.

What gets me about freaks like this is the audacity they have doing anything in the name of God or in God's wishes.

I am presuming that she and I share the same God, but mine doesn't think it is right to invade, kill etc . . . So, is she praying to false Gods? Is she speaking in tongues?

(Well, at least I don't think so, it's been a while since we knocked back a sake or two . . . or did I only see him after seven? Semantics)
