    This one is from NBC/WSJ:
    http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/se...J_Released.pdf

Basics has Obama (45) leading McCain (42).

But the intersting bit is the break-down in regard to issues.

    Here is the basics in the issues break-down;
Obama Better/ McCain Better - issue:
    48 / 27 - Health care
    47 / 21 - Environment and global warming
    47 / 25 - Jobs and unemployment
    42 / 30 - Improving the economy
39 / 32 - Energy and the cost of gas
    38 / 39 - Taxes
    36 / 46 - The situation in Iraq
    35 / 25 - The mortgage and housing crisis
    34 / 32 - Social Security
    31 / 33 - Issues related to moral values
    27 / 34 - Illegal immigration
27 / 52 - International crises such as Iran or Russia and the nation of Georgia
    23 / 51 - Terrorism
    Obama 7 - McCain 6
With these kinds of results I think if I were running things from the blue team I would minimize comments related to the areas they poll poorly on - like Iraq and Iran, and even bin Laden and Afghanistan (terrorism). Try to kep the focus on the economy.

On the flip side for McCain I think they need to attack the lead Obama has right now on the economy.

One last post (for now) related to poll numbers.

    Zogby poll:
    Zogby International
    The Ticket Horserace:
    Sept 5/6
    McCain-Palin - 49.7
    Obama-Biden - 45.9
    Others/ Not sure - 4.4%

    One-on-One Horserace:
    McCain 48.8%
    Obama 45.7%
    Others/ Not sure 5.5%
Seems Palin has helped - at least according to this poll.

BO Suddenly Remembers: He Almost Joined the Military!

He’s never mentioned it before, not even in two autobiographies, but Barack Obama has suddenly remembered that he considered joining the military.
Obama disclosed that he had once considered serving in the military.

“You know, I actually did,” Obama said. “I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school. And I was growing up in Hawaii. And I have friends whose parents were in the military. There are a lot of Army, military bases there.

“And I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honorable option. But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979. The Vietnam War had come to an end. We weren’t engaged in an active military conflict at that point. And so, it’s not an option that I ever decided to pursue.”

Just one problem with Obama’s little story.
Registration for selective service was not reinstated until 1980.

    Thanks to LGF

Thankfully not. Believe it or not CM there are many registered Republicans (and Democrats) that do not resort to spouting partisan slogans and character attacks. In the past they were referred to as "the silent majority". They continue to remain silent amid the din of partisan rhetoric and will, as they always have, determine who will be elected.

^ I know. That's why I thought they were the swing voters -- can vote any way they want. But, if I was a (perish the thought) a Democrat and decided to vote Republican, who would know?

Latest Gallup poll has McCain back in the lead - convention bounce?

Gallup Daily: McCain Moves Ahead, 48% to 45%
    McCain - 48
    Obama - 45

Back around Aug 24 it was a dead heat, with McCain getting a point or two lead soon after. Obama took back the lead, and his convention bounce pushed him out to as much as an eight point lead. As the red team convention started to get rolling the gap began to narrow. Now McCain has a three point lead.

From eight points down, to a three point lead - not bad John boy, not bad at all.

This poll is kind of interesting to me because it is a three day running average, and thus less likely to spike on whim. That being said it will be interesting to see if McCain can build on his lead.

Asking Norton if you are a liberal may have been rhetorical, but that you can't vote isn't.

Actually, mine was rhetorical . . . you're just too clever by half, Jet.

Deep inside there is a liberal just waiting to burst out.

First indication is your membership on Obama's website. But even more telling is your selection of avs. Grace Slick! No self respecting "conservative" would choose her.

Grace was invited to a tea party by Tricia Nixon for a Finch College alumnae party at the White House in 1969. She invited the political activist Abbie Hoffman to be her escort, and planned to spike President Nixon's tea with LSD. They were denied entry by security but I'm convinced they must have figured out a way to get the LSD in Nixon's tea.

Actually. "McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican's biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.

Actually Inuit is a distinction for esquimo people of the Canadian Arctic. Move west a little they call themselves Inupiat on the north slope on down towards Kotzebue where you get a blend of Inupiat and Yupik esquimo. West central Alaska is the home of the Yupik esquimo. Their culture based on marine mammals is quite distinct from other native american culture. Far more cultured and artistic than one might think. Bethel Alaska (the heart of Yupik country) is considered the "Paris on the Kuskokwim"

so, an 11 point swing in a week. doesn't that strike you as the least bit curious? or do you really think that mccain opened up that kind of lead in less than a week?

in short, this is why these type of tracking polls are more or less worthless.

can't you see how foolish this is....

In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote. The survey of 1,022 adults, including 959 registered voters, has a margin of error of +/— 3 points for both samples.
i look forward to reading real, unbiased national polling data taken approximately a week after the final debate.

Forget the national polls. They don't count for much. Watch the polls in the swing states. They are the key. And yes none of the polls mean much until well into October.

Early on in the campaign polls are for the most part meaningless but as the campaigns move toward the latter stages, they will drive campaign strategies. As Hillary found out, timing is the key. Her surge at the end was because the strategy changed when Obama got a big lead. She changed to late and ran out of time.
