Is McDonalds any worse than fish and chips? Or a meat pie? Or a kebab? I don't like it and therefore I don't eat it, but I'm definitely in a minority. I don't see any point in bitching about it or trying to convert anyone, I just go where I like to eat and leave others to make their own choice.

Funny how things work- this thread made me think of how long it's been since I had a Mcdonalds, even though it's being compared to cropophilia- so I went to the one in Sukhumvit Rd Pattaya, next to the Siam World theme park last night.

I had the 'double cheeseburger' value meal, with orange juice instead of Coke for an extra 11bht.

Double cheeseburger- unfortunately it turns out they don't have the quarter pounder in Thailand (damn) so this substituted. It was fine- same standard as I would expect in Oz or anywhere else. Not to be confused with health food, but I quite enjoyed it. Nice and hot too, and the bun browned on the inside. This was not microwaved.

Fries- fine too, decently hot (luck of the draw maybe, they can be luke warm or even cold). Cooked as you'd expect shoestring fries to be (I prefer chips though), and salted.

OJ- absolute shite, disgustingly sweet. To their credit though, the lady manageress (who speaks good English) had told me it was 40% orange juice. The half or so that i finished probably had more sugar in it than I normally pollute my body with in a week. Next time I'll have water, or coffee. I don't think this shite should be allowed to be sold as OJ- orange cordial or something, OK.

All up, 120 bht. Quite expensive compared to what you could get from smaller vendors, particularly Thai food. I think McD's in HK is no more expensive than here in Thailand- an anomaly given local prices, maybe a bit of a rip off locally speaking- but as they say it's what the market will bear.

McDonald's and other processed foods are a major source of trans-fats, possibly the worst kind of fat Man can consume. These foods are doing more damage to people than cigarettes and alcohol.

Read this before eating another burger....

Trans fat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It would not surprise me, as more countries move toward banning cigarette smoking just abut everywhere, if at some point in the future it became illegal to sell this kind of food. We are already seeing increased food labelling just as we saw nicotine and tar levels displayed on cigarettes. I truly believe this is coming, although maybe not for 10-20 years.

Why on Earth are McDonald's still in business when they are producing something equally as unhealthy as cigarettes...and marketing it to children?

Used to have lunch there every day untill a particularly snobby sales girl in my office questioned how I could eat there, "but it smells of poor people" she piped up one afternoon.

I think she might have been on to something.

This McDonald's was one of the exceptions I mentioned in my post that I ate at and felt it wasn't microwaved. However in restaurants in the States they will throw away old burgers rather than micro them and here they actually micro them for cooking in most instances..

Something else that has to be considered here is that they package certain items for the market, I.E. drinks. The juice for example is tailored towards the Thai market which is as sweet as possible. I have always hated OJ from concentrate since they squeeze a lot of the peel flavor in it. Also since it has to be reconstituted by a human there is too much room for error in mixture and it never comes out like orange juice again and it usually tastes very bitter and gives me indigestion..

If you have ever even been to Epcot center in Florida there is a Coca Cola venue there where you can taste what is considered "Coke" in numerous different countries that is tailored to the regions taste and you would be very surprised how much different "Coke" tastes in other regions..

I think Dog blower has it right, I don't want to eat the same thing every single day of anyone's food either. That's not life, the spice of life is variety.

I have never understood Subway for example advertising against McDonald's for customers since I would never eat either every day for any meal so what's the point? They are completely different tastes for different moods..And as an occasional meal I like them both..

    The million dollar question here is;
Do any of the voters intend to back up their vote?? I'll gladly eat at McDonalds again but if you are very firm in your convictions about it being worse than poo and you have voted as such you should provide us with proof of your having ingested a fair sampling of your vote as confirmation...

McDonalds do not microwave their burgers in Thailand or anywhere else.

Burger King do microwave their burgers though, in Thailand and everywhere else in the World. A BK burger patty is flame grilled and kept in a bain marie until required when it is put on a toasted bun with all the condiments wrapped in the paper and microwaved before going in the chute.

Is McDie successful? Hell yes! Do I ever eat there? Hell yes! Can eating at McDeath everyday be bad? Hell yes!

    So what is the argument?

The Brits did not invent McD!

Fuk dude, fried fish and 'chips' /fries is only about 400 years old, I am guessing. And ain't that meal pretty healthy?

BTW, a common hippie expression in the 70s was to 'eat shit'

If done properly it is pretty healthy, especially, as traditionally the batter wasn't eaten.

I never said I have never enjoyed a McDonalds, there have been times when I had. The shit tastes good if you're in the mood as Sabang pointed out - but as you should by well know that isn't my arguement.

The last time I enjoyed a McDonalds it actually had a toilet too! It was in Silom I think, but the toilets were flooded with poos and wees and there was a 'crew member' (I love that-don't you, Crew Member) -anyway, there was a crew member cleaning up all this toilet water overflow with a mop.

On the back of her shirt it said 'I'm Loving It' - which I found odd because her face told a different story.

Aaah, but that wasn't the poll question, otherwise I would have voted differently. It wasn't 'which tastes better' or 'which would you prefer to eat' (both of which would have been McD's in my case). It was 'which is less harmful'. In which case, I'm afraid (IMO) it has to be the poop.

That doesn't mean I would want to eat poop. I eat a lot of unhealthy stuff, which I would vastly prefer to poop.

McDonalds may not be top-shelf cuisine. But it's a pretty good business.

I strongly suspect that before they pack up their fryers and grills, when any health inspectors deem their fare unhealthy, they'll overcome and adapt.

In Tokyo McD's had an entire menu of Chinese food in addition to their staples. They have salads instead of fries. They're keen to give customers what they want. If you don't like what they offer, it merely means your tastes are unlike many, many people around you.

I realise they have salads etc in US & European branches, but do they give that option in Thailand? Certainly, salads are not available in the HH branch.

^ Apparently the salad's aren't all that they are cracked up to be either - also high in fat/salt content (at least if Supersize Me is to be believed).

Ahhh! haaa! But I didn't say it was "better tasting", I just said if you thought it was "worse" than poo which makes no mention what ever of taste and clearly falls under the premise of the OP. If you think it is really better than McD's there should be no reluctance if you were offered a choice between only the two...
