politics makes for strange bedfellows indeed...I wonder who's on top??
The plan will unfold shortly, close to home
panic by the elite
panic by the army
panic by the pollies
panic by the back stabbers
visit the lord on weekend trips, get advised go home,
listen to him on local radio,
solve border dispute
put Cambodia on map
and the people have a future lord who will be forgiven and rule again.

Thailand recall Cambodian ambassador
Thursday, 5 November 2009
Thailand has recalled its ambassador to Cambodia after Phnom Penh gave a job to fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, accusing its neighbour of interfering in its politics and stoking tensions.
The Cambodian government said last night that it had appointed Thaksin as an economics adviser, riling Bangkok, which is trying to bring Mr Thaksin home to face justice three years after he was ousted in a coup.
Ties between the two predominantly Buddhist nations have been strained since July 2008 amid an ongoing border conflict over land surrounding an 11th century temple which has claimed several lives.
'We have recalled the ambassador as the first diplomatic retaliation measure to let the Cambodian government know the dissatisfaction of the Thai people,' Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters.
'Last night's announcement by the Cambodian government harmed the Thai justice system and really affected Thai public sentiment,' Abhisit said.
Mr Abhisit said aid to Cambodia would also be halted, but checkpoints on the disputed border between the two countries would remain open and 'people-to-people relations would not be affected'.
There was no immediate reaction from Cambodia.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen first floated the job offer forMr Thaksin at a summit of Asian leaders last month, and the official announcement, made by royal decree, came on state television.
Mr Thaksin remains a hugely influential figure in Thailand, where he has stirred up mass protests by the so-called 'Red Shirt' movement against Abhisit's government in the past year.
Mr Thaksin, who is believed to spend much of his time in Dubai, said in a Twitter posting that he thanked Hun Sen for the appointment but still wanted to work for Thailand's well-being.

Gov't not to ask Cambodia to review decision of appointing Thaksin: Thai deputy PM
Editor: Deng Shasha
BANGKOK, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- It is not essential for the Thai government to ask Cambodia's government to reconsider its decision of appointing the ousted former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra as an adviser of the Cambodian government, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Thursday.
Former Thai Premier Thaksin Shinawatra was officially appointed as adviser of his Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Royal Government of Cambodia King Norodom Sihamoni, a statement of the Royal Government announced on Wednesday.
"It is not necessary for the Foreign Ministry to send a letter to Cambodia's government to review the decision since it is Cambodia's internal affairs," Thai News Agency quoted Suthep as saying.
The Thai government does not have any right to disrupt this, while the bilateral relations between Thailand and Cambodia have still existed, Suthep said.
"I am not worried that being the advisor of Thaksin to Cambodia will cause to any border tension so the Thai government does not have to adjust the Thai-Cambodian border strategy," the deputy prime minister said.
Also, Suthep said he has believed such the advisor's appointment for Thaksin will not be harmful to Thailand in the future since he is still confident that Cambodia does not want to have any problem with Thailand.
However, if there is evidence proving Thaksin lives in Cambodia, the Thai government will send a letter to the Cambodian government to ask for extraditing Thaksin to Thailand, Suthep said.
And, if Cambodia refuses to extradite Thaksin, Thailand will see if Cambodia breaks any laws having been agreed by the two countries, Suthep explains.
Thaksin was ousted by the military coup in September, 2006, in accusation of corruption, and has been kept in exile since then.
He returned to Thailand in February, 2008 to face corruption charges, but he later fled into exile again and was convicted in absentia.

The only thing that could have made this funnier is if it had been the Burmese govt that had given Thaksin a job![]()
To me this is part of a bigger picture. Recall the other story this week? Gen. Chavalit the new head of the Peau Thai was going to meet his brother "Than Shwea" or however the Burmese guy spells his name (Chavalit's a former Thai PM and 'right wing strongman' - think he was a right winger -- aren't they all?)
So I think this is meant to really spook the old plutocracy families in Thailand - aristocrats and cronies..
But I agree this could really backfire on Thaksin - and the reds.
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!
Can't keep a good man down, some people will be pissing themselves with rage, ha ha.
It looks like you didn't get the credit. It's been run in 'Thailand news clippings' and is being credited to 'Admin' for the story.Originally Posted by ItsRobsLife
desperate maybe ? associating with a former war criminal ? how more low do you need to go ?Originally Posted by StrontiumDog
It's obvious the Cambodian government is doing this after the temple disaster, just to tell the Thai to fuck off, can't blame them. But that political move is overkill.

you are joking right ? they were fiscal disastersOriginally Posted by ItsRobsLife
anyway I don't see a former war crime criminal implementing a populist agenda,
Thaksin is really not doing himself a favor, this is really stupid. He should simply do his jail time and come back as a politician if he still feels like it.
Thaksin is a lot closer to traitor or enemy-of-the-state now. Hun Sen might even use him as a bargaining chip to get what he wants; I wonder if Thaksin knows that. He'll have to build up his own bought-off army in Cambodia to feel safe there.
Makes a lot of noise but could he really do anything there with total trust even of the Cambodian government.
But Thaksin is moving up in his field, he went from 80th place (Thailand) on Transparency International's Country Corruption index to 166th place (Cambodia). There's a lot of opportunity for him but lots of risk. Maybe he'll make Cambodia into his own Little Dubai but with all the extras you can't get like legalised prostitution, legalised drugs, and legalised gambling. Then of course you can add the local Cambodian favorites like shooting cows with RPGs and throwing handgrenades.
I can't believe anyone thinks Thaksin is going to move to Cambodia..I mean come on.
he could really boost the tourism figures given all the right support and funds

It's what every color out there is waiting for (especially the yellows)..that's always been what this was about - positioning. A very, very dangerous game.

Maybe I should have chosen Phnom Penh in that poll for best Asian City? (only if the VN girls return though..)

Well what I was hoping for was a shitfight to break out, but TV seems eerily quiet...
Well his policies weren't fiscal disasters for the Thai farmers, and as for the 2,500 'drug dealers' well we can't judge SEA actions with western values, can we...?
Anyway a former war criminal may well introduce a populist agenda, Cambodia will rise from the ashes of it's past once the world economy gets back in gear and for that he needs a happy population that won't shoot the tourists with enough education to drag them out of the rice farms and into the service economy.
Thaksin not doing himself any favors..? Do his jail time and come back as a politician..? You haven't really thought about that have you?
Thaksin has gone from dispossesed thorn in the side of any host country with limited power and resources, to a secure job, with power, and resources in a country where if he laughed loud enough his enemies would be able to hear him, I should think right now there aren't many other guys on this planet as cheerful as he.![]()
I think it's best not to discuss it.
