Dear Tories, sorry we spent all the money

Dear Tories, sorry we spent all the money: Labour's farewell letter as it's revealed public debt could DOUBLE to £1,790bn
    By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 6:59 PM on 17th May 2010
Labour's gross mismanagement of the economy was laid bare today after it was revealed a former minister left his successor a note that said 'there was no money left'.
In a stark message left in a Treasury desk, outgoing chief secretary to the Treasury Liam Byrne wrote simply: 'I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left.'
His astonishing admission came as George Osborne announced that he will deliver his first emergency Budget on June 22, exactly six weeks after the new coalition Government took office.
Mr Osborne said that he would also be setting out next week details of the £6 billion of spending cuts to be made this year as latest figures from the Institute for Fiscal Studies calculated for the Guardian suggested public debt could double from £890bn to £1,790bn.

    Gordon Brown.

The premier that sold a huge chunk of the UK's bullion reserve at a cut down price before the economic crisis...

    Great foresight....

The same government that was willing to spend public funds (£150,000) on a Brazilian dance troop with percussion from Hackney....

    My taxes.

I'd like to post in the Battle Of Bangkok thread, but, seeing as I am a newbie I do not get that privilege. My wife lives in Bangkok, yet I can not contribute on something that effects me. I don't have 100 posts so my point of view is invalid.

    How fucking ironic.

Not being allowed to voice ones opinion is the same mentality as the troops shooting unarmed civilians on the streets of Bangkok.

    Disgraceful.

    Freedom of speech?

    please.

Quickly buy up Thai baht. As the exchange rate has dropped from 50 t0 45 in two weeks, the government can buy back its sterling in a month or two at about a 25% profit. Bloody easy.

XE.com: United Kingdom Pounds (GBP) to Thailand Baht (THB) rate

46.9 as of this morning but of course you don't actually get that much because the banks want their bit + fees

The Rp is down to 13,200 this morning so I would expect to get <13,000 and likely 12,800.
3 years back it was almost 19,000 o the quid after the banks have screwed their bit.
Fucking bastard socialist idiots. I may have to work properly.
Be happy dudes. It's a lot more fun than crying.

Since you highjacked this thread, maybe we can get back to the topic at hand. Any thoughts on how the new govt will fix this? Emergency budget with money from?
Well I am in the same boat as hopskimoet with a post count as small as a Pattaya punter's pecker.

    Anyway, I have an idea as to how the UK can find some money;
    1. Cut pensions for anyone not living in the UK for at least 6 1/2 months months of the year.
    2. Attach a condition to all foreign aid that there must be transparency and full disclosure. Any country siphoning off foreign aid for some crooked leader will incur either a suspension of funding or a penalty 100X the amount stolen, No leftie can disagree since it protects the integrity of foreign aid and it will satisfy hard core tories because it will translate into at least a 50% cut.
    3. Impose a requirement that all manufactured goods must meet basic minimum quality requirements. This would bounce 1/2 the shoddy foreign imports from shelves and help jumpstart domestic manufacturing. It would also help the trade deficit. Does one really benefit from a mop made in China that breaks after a couple uses?
    4. No social assistance unless one is truly disabled and cannot work. All we hear about is how public authorities do not have enough staffing to keep streets clean and litter free, or there are no crossing guards. Well, freeze the public service jobs, thereby avoiding union anger over a fear that well paid workers would lose their jobs. Then say to the tens of thousands of layabouts on the dole, here's a UK manufactured broom, now off you go if you want your cheque.
    5. Deportation of any non UK citizen guilty of any serious crime.
    6. No allowance for immigrants brought in under family reunification to claim social assistance.
    7. User fees for non emergency and non preventative medical care.
    8. Minimum flat tax.
9 Increased penalties for tax evasion combined with increased tax enforcement, but a reduction of tax rates to encourage tax compliance.
    10. All non essential social programs to have funding stopped. No subsidies for Morris Dancers etc.
    11. Impose addtional airfare tax of 10-20 pounds on any flight over 90 minutes as a contribution for the public subsidization of airlines and airports.

How you like those lovely notions............ oh and btw,

    OI........No !!!!!!!! Hands off Morris Dancers !!!

Apart from that some good suggestions. I'd like to add maybe that starting from
1 year hence, no child benefit after the first 3 children. If you want to raise your own football team make sure you can afford it or get the backing of a Russian millionaire.

However the real point of this article and others in the press is the totally despicable attidude of the Labour party, putting nobbling the Tories above helping the nation out of the hole they've dug for us. Total wankers.

Well if you "Punters" care to go back far enough, and not be caught up in the sensational tabloid reporting you will find that this "deficit" has been inherited from the previous government to the labour one? mmmm oh yes... Tory's!!! believe Labour found a note saying "sorry it's in such a mess"

SO this problem has been escalating for many years, just been hidden from the general public, so that things do not look so bad.

The present government, which is different due to it being a coalition. and LibDems now privy to information that they have not had for years, are running scared. and starting to blabb, this is having the effect it is having on the pound at the moment.

So things are going to get a lot worse for Britain for a while, Tory's are going to hammer everything. They wanted to do so years ago! Taxing expats living and working abroad! They were going to do so back in the 1980s.

So all you guys sitting happily abroad. I have a feeling that you will be joining the rest of us poor SODS back here in Britain in getting screwed for everything we have.

Think Robin Hood may have to come out of retirement. TAXES lol see budget in a week or so.............................VAT, INCOME TAX. CAPITAL GAINS. lol every pound earned you'll be lucky to have any change after tax!

Far from it, old fool. I have a vested interest in the events unfolding in Bangkok because I have a wife and family there. If events take a turn for the worst my ability to see my wife and my extended family maybe severely curtailed. So, you can take your newbie comment and shove it right where the sun has never (or maybe) shined.

Do you think that because you have upwards of 13,000 banal posts it gives you the right to cast aspersions? Please.

I think the guys that really contribute to the current crisis are top notch. Especially SD. He's in the thick of it and I hope he comes out of it on the sunny side. Before the mess that has become Bangkok I was making staunch plans to migrate and spend time with the people I love. Those plans are now in limbo.

Anyway, carry on folks on the state of the political situation in the UK....

Exactly! What the tories never admit too is borrowing as much money as the labour party but then in their eyes it is only a crime when the labour party does so, bloody hypocrites!

You seem to have forgotten we have no manufacturing base - the Tories destroyed it!

Deportation of any non UK citizen guilty of any serious crime.
Rather difficult; EU citizens have the right to reside where they like irrespective of what crimes they have committed - a problem the police in central London for example are too well aware of.

Increased penalties for tax evasion combined with increased tax enforcement, but a reduction of tax rates to encourage tax compliance.
Heavy penalties already exist, tax evasion needs to be stopped before it begins.

There are already taxes on flights, not for the reasons you suggest but adding more will only damage the airline industry which has been suffering enough lately.

David Cameron vows to cut taxes - Telegraph

Wonder how he is going to get the deficiet down as his policies will definitely stifle growth and increase unemployment?

How many years were labour in power for? How long did they need? After their term, was the country in a better or worse state than when they originally took over?

Anyway, they are both pretty poor. Best to alternate, so neither can do too much damage.

How many years were the Tories in power for? Longer than Labour that's a a fact that cannot be denied. What did the Tories do? They lambasted Labour for having 1 million on the dole and then proceeded to more than treble that figure, refused to invest in research and development and squandered North Sea oil revenue on the social security bill - a product of their deliberate unemployment policy they used to drive down inflation. The country was in a much better state for most of the time were Labour were in power, it was the credit crunch that ended that for which the Labour party can only be partly blamed. Although I agree that both have policies equally poor and my serious belief is the country needs a completely new party and political system although that will never happen while the current bunch of buffoons are pulling the strings.
