Police are offering a $1 million reward for information in their hunt for a man wanted over the murder of a self-described vampire and male prostitute in Melbourne six years ago.
Shane Chartres-Abbott was shot dead at Reservoir in 2003 on the day he was due to face court on charges of rape and assault.
He was accused of leaving a woman lying unconscious in a South Yarra hotel room after raping her and biting off part of her tongue.
One man is serving a life sentence for the murder after pleading guilty in 2008, but police still want to question Mark Adrian Perry.
He is the former boyfriend of the woman Mr Chartres-Abbott allegedly raped and assaulted and detectives reportedly believe Mr Perry ordered the execution.
Police say he probably fled Melbourne in September 2007 when he knew they were looking for him.
Mr Perry has since been seen in the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia and may have changed his appearance.
Deputy Commissioner Ken Jones said in a statement that police believe Mr Perry may hold vital information.
"We have taken the step of posting this reward because we are seeking the public's assistance to locate this man," he said.
"Someone out there will have contact with him or know of his whereabouts and we are urging them to come forward."
Mr Chartres-Abbott was killed outside his home on June 4, 2003. Two men assaulted his girlfriend and father who were with him at the time.
Police are urging anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
Mr Chartres-Abbott's murder was at the centre of a 2007 police integrity inquiry into allegations high-ranking police officers leaked details about the investigation.
There was also an allegation that a police officer gave the his address to a hitman.
Around the same time, the Australian Tax Office (ATO) investigated why information about Mr Chartres-Abbott was accessed from its Albury headquarters, in southern New South Wales, in the months before he was murdered.
What a mess.
