LONDON (UPI) -- A new lip gloss product that comes with test strips to test drinks for drugs should help limit the number of drug rape victims in Britain, a campaigner says.
Roofie Foundation head Graham Rhodes, whose group focuses on an anti-drug rape campaign, said the 2LoveMyLips lip gloss allows women to ensure no debilitating drugs are in their drinks by using accompanying test strips, The Daily Mail said Friday.
Rhodes said with an estimated 9,887 people in Britain have being victimized as a result of spiked drinks, he is hopeful the new product will highlight the problem.
"We hope this creates awareness of the problem. There are still so many people who don't realize drink-spiking is going on," Rhodes said.
Businesswoman Tracy Whittaker, who is selling the product with her partner Tina Dutton, told the Mail their product is a simple solution to a major problem.
"If a drink tastes funny, or you are suspicious, you dab the ends of the taper into your drink and, if they turn blue, tell your friends immediately and get help from security and the police -- it's that simple," she said.
