    Kunt is dead

Knut the polar bear, who became world famous after he was hand-reared by keepers after his mother rejected him, has died at the age of four.

A spokesman for Berlin zoo, where Knut was kept, said the bear was found floating in the pool inside his enclosure.

Bear keeper Heiner Kloes said the cause of death was not known, and a post-mortem examination would be held.

In captivity, polar bears can live until they are about 30 years old.

Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit called Knut's death awful.

"We all held him so dearly. He was the star of the Berlin zoos," Mr Wowereit told BZ newspaper.

Knut became world-famous after his birth in 2006, as news of his unusual upbringing emerged.

In 2007, Knut generated more than 5m (£4.4m; $7m) euros in extra income for Berlin zoo, from the sale of tickets and Knut-branded merchandise.

As his fame grew, a row over the royalties from the bear's popularity erupted between Berlin Zoo and Neumuenster Zoo, where he was born.

Eventually Berlin Zoo agreed to pay 430,000 euros to compensate Neumuenster.

Polar bear Knut died of brain damage, tests suggest

It seems Knut died of brain damage

German polar bear Knut probably died of brain damage, a post-mortem examination suggests.

Berlin Zoo said in a statement a preliminary necropsy conducted on Monday revealed "significant changes to the brain, which could be seen as the reason for the sudden death".

It said no other organ damage had been seen; more tests are being done.
Knut, who was four years old, died suddenly on Saturday while sunbathing at the zoo in front of visitors.

Hardly surprising given that everyone had been calling him Knut since he was born. Surprised he didn't top himself.

Obviously sunstroke and certainly no need for a post-mortem.

knut & his 'brother' were abandoned by mama bear at birth
    bro died shortly after birth
Knut'ster died of ? while sunbathing .. seems I read of a previously undiagnosed brain anomaly.

what did mom know at birth that 21st century technology could not diagnose.

the 4 year media event was about cuteness ..

I wonder about his mom's 'special senses' that have proven to be more accurate than all the vets on the planet.. ??

Did momma bear know what humans have forgotten (will remember eventually?) why waste precious energy / resources on a sick-lings

perhaps western welfare states should learn from knut's moma bear
as long as there are tests, there will be prayers in public schools.

I read a PETA article about this which suggested he was being bullied by some female polar bears, and they had recommended he be separated from them.

Seems he had a history of being rejected by females. He probably should have come to Thailand.

Very interesting thoutht. Worth reading up whether animals who abandon their children sense sometimes sense something wrong with them.

    Knut= Canute.

And yes, apparently putting him in the same enclosure with 3 older female bears was not the right thing to do.

The zoo probably won't admit that they shugged poor little Knut to death.

I am sure it does happen. Knut however was a first born and it frequently happens that the mother does not know how to handle it. For me that is the most likely cause.

The other argument comes up because animal protection extremists are totally against raising animals by humans as well as keeping them in Zoos at all. Those people have put up a strong fight to have Knut killed instead of raised by a human. The health argument fits their agenda well.

So there was a great tragedy in Germany the other day, when Knut the Polar Bear died. Apparently, the NBC affiliate in Chicago thought something else died that day. Maybe your mother-in-law.

knut knew his future and waves an early goodbye
Flashback to March 23, 2007, when Knut made his first public appearance at Berlin Zoo

    But never mind

'Two new zoo-perstars take a bow and help to ease the pain after Knut's sudden death' ''Their timing was perfect as these cute new zoo-perstars celebrated their first outing in front of an adoring public still in mourning following the death of the world's favourite polar bear Knut.''

Polar bear cubs Gregor and Aleut make their first appearance at Nuremberg Zoo today''

It's just a variation on some idiot wko keeps buying kittens , then getting rid of them when they stop being cute.

I read somewhere that global warming is killing the polar bears, and here is the proof.
