New Zealand - Rare white tiger kills zoo keeper

Rare white tiger kills zoo keeper

The zoo houses about 40 rare lions and tigers

A rare white tiger has mauled to death a New Zealand zoo keeper as horrified tourists looked on, police said.

The attack occurred at the Zion Wildlife Gardens in Whangarei, some 200km (124 miles) north of Auckland.

Police said the tiger grabbed a male zoo keeper who was cleaning an enclosure and would not let go despite the efforts of other staff members.

The zoo - home to some 40 rare lions and tigers - has been closed to visitors, and the tiger destroyed.

Police said the attack was witnessed by a group of eight tourists.

A white tiger at the same park was reported to have attacked another keeper earlier this year, leaving him needing surgery.

The zoo is well known in New Zealand as the setting for a reality television programme that starred its founder Craig Busch, known as the "Lion Man".

Mr Busch was dismissed from his post last year by his mother, who controls the zoo.

If the tiger had just stolen a beer mat from a local bar it would have been spared and let back into the community.

Should line the Zoo superintendent up against a wall and shoot him/ her and for firstly not providing proper safety and or training for the deceased and secondly for having the tiger shot.

Silly, stupid human beings all round!

Check out "White Tiger Fraud" for more discussion of human silliness:
    White Tigers
To quote from Dr. Ron Tilson, Conservation Director of the Minnesota Zoo and manager of the world renown Tiger Species Survival Plan, "The white tiger controversy among zoos is a small part ethics and a large part economics. The tiger Species Survival Plan has condemned breeding white tigers because of their mixed ancestry, most have been hybridized with other subspecies and are of unknown lineage, and because they serve no conservation purpose. Owners of white tigers say they are popular exhibit animals and increase zoo attendance and revenues as well. The same rationalization can be applied to the selective propagation of white lions, king cheetahs and other phenotypically aberrant animals."

Same happened when Steve Irvine was killed by a stingray (i think it was). A lot of random killings (in AU) of stingrays after he was gone. Quite dumb and unnecessary.
One way or another, man has to show that he's still on top!

I find that highly unlikely Scandy unless there was an illegal Japanese fishing vessell in the area!

Steve Irwin died because he took a risk once too often for the cameras and got killed by a freakish accident.

    Cool Familiarity

So another zookeeper bites the dust,I am retired now, but my trade was Master zookeeper , the last 10 years before I retired I was the curatorof zoological institutions in germany and Australia, there are at least 2 deaths a year in zoo,s, caused by keepers being to familiar with the animals they care for, the attitude is my animals wont bite or hurt me!! Wrong!!!!!every animal has a bad hair day or takes playing a bit to far and ends up killing you to death, At the Ruhr zoo in gelsenkirchen I had a young apprentice who was a natural, he could calmthe wildest beast, he never took risks and grew to be a very experienced and caring zookeeper, every evening before going home he would walk round the zoo and check on his charges , till 1 evening he was patting one of his tigers, as he usually did, the cat grabbed him and killed him, he had been caringfor that particular tiger for 45 years, it just happened that the tiger had an abcess in its mouth and was in pain. By the way I even trained handlers in mr crikeys australia zoo, the only reason he died was because he was a

The tiger apparently knew who was going to spend life behind bars anyway, then heard Australia does not have a death penalty. I guess people might be hesitant to visit a zoo and see a human killer.

The show, "Lion Man" was a very good show. It was on Australia Network & I watched it weekly before the idiots here (at my condo) decided to remove Australia Network.

It appears as though "mummy did not know best".

I'm pretty certain that if Craig had been able to stay, this tragic event would not have happened.
Oh for fucks sake! Get a life & stop trying to fuck mine up!
