Australia Sydney - Man jailed for giving wife HIV

Man jailed for giving wife HIV

A MAN will spend at least three years behind bars for infecting his wife with HIV, a court has ruled.

A Sydney judge handed down the sentence after the 38-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to one charge of maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Penrith District Court previously heard the man infected his wife, who is the mother of his three children, with HIV some time between January 1994 and December 2003.

His wife only found out she had the disease when the couple's youngest child was diagnosed with HIV in 1998.

The child died three years later from an AIDS-related illness.

Judge Jennifer English on Monday sentenced the man to four years and six months full-time jail with a non-parole period of three years, meaning he will be eligible for release in April 2012 at the earliest.

Because it would identify the wife and family and that might not be a good idea. Good job he got a prison sentence.

I think the key question, which the OP does not appear to address, is whether or not he knew that he was HIV-positive?

Right, it he could have had a dangerous second lifestyle that he was keeping secret from his wife. One where he engaged in high risk unprotected sex. And, you sure that he's not being mentioned because of AID's law? I think AID's victims have rights against being publicly identified. I'm not an expert about this, though

"who cannot be named for legal reasons"

It's just that kind of perverted schmekel head logic that makes horrible crimes like this possible. A disease is not a civil rights issue, victims are entitled to compassion but protecting other should be the primary concern.

    I don't fvck around for 2 reasons.

    1. I love my family and don't want to infect my wife with anything.

    2. She would kill me if I ever did and got caught.

Anyone who has unprotected sex outside of their marriage stands the risk of catching something and then passing it on to his wife.

Selfish bastard and has ruined his families future all for the sake of a little fun on the side.
