You know, Obama may have, um, "bowed" (if it can really be called that) to some Saudi King, but at least he didn't have all his money tied up with the Saudis the way the Bush family has...

It is traditional for women to curtsy, and men to bow, upon first meeting a member of the Royal Family. This is not obligatory, but a courtesy which adds to the formality of an occasion.

These days the USA and the Saudi Royal dictators have a pretty cozy deal going.
The Saudi dictators keep the OPEC oil flowing in sufficient quantities to keep the world price down and the USA protects the Saudi royal dictators from the democratic wishes of the people of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Royal dictators know full well that if they tried to pull another stunt like 1973 they would be looking at another Iraq. An USA is quite happy with the deal supporting and sucking up to the dictators in a repressive fundamentalist Islamic state as long as it controls the world price of oil.

But the honeymoon is going to be over possibly as soon as the next decade (and certainly within the next 30 years), when Saudi Arabia's easy to assess and good quality oil reserves start to run out. No doubt the Saudi Royal dictators will all be residing in Florida by then.

But surprise, surprise! Right next door to Saudi Arabia is Iraq, which just happens to have the next biggest reserves of cheap to recover high quality oil. Massive reserves in fact rivaling that of Saudi Arabia's. I guess it was just fortunate for USA that they invaded Iraq now and have a friendly government in place. Well, semi-friendly so long as the Iranians dont get too much influence from their Shiite brothers across the border.
