A GROUP of men stood laughing and cheering as a woman was bashed over the head with a rock in Darwin.
The men filmed a fight between two women near a busy service station in the city.

The disturbing footage was uploaded onto YouTube using a racial slur in the title and viewed almost 1000 times, the Northern Territory News reports.
By 9am (AEDT) today it had been removed from the video sharing site for "terms of use violation".
At least seven men could be seen in the 45 second video. Some were holding cans of beer.

The group callously laughed as the woman came under attack outside a BP service station, at first only concerned that the fight would damage their car.

"Oi! Oi! The car! The car!" one of the men yelled out.

The men continued to cheer as one of the woman continued to be beaten while on her knees.

It was not until her attacker picked up what appeared to be a rock and slammed it down twice on her head that the audience called out "no more".

The video was listed on YouTube as "comedy".

I watched close up a fight between two aboriginal women in Alice spirings in May 1999.

The 'victor' had a house brick and was using the corner to bash the other woman.

She'd band her on the head until she moved her hands there, then ram it in her face. When her hands went to her face, she moved back to the head.

An Aboriginal male came over and asked me and two friends to stop the fight, muttering that it was more than his lifes worth to do so.

We edged closely as the beating went on, urine dribbling down our legs when the cops screeched up. The bloodied one was bundled in the back and the aggressor was allowed to walk away.

Three hours later I walked out of my hotel and lo and behold sitting in the doorway opposite was the 'victim' head bandaged, still in bloody dress, happily glugging down a flaggon.

They must have very hard heads.

A bit of sensationalist headlines there methinks.

Even the article itself states the men were calling for a halt when the victim was bashed with (what looked like) a rock.

Drunken Aborigines brawling in a public place is not that uncommon.
Try and break it up and you are likely to get set upon yourself, or even charged with assault should it end up going to the courts.

I have to wonder what the journalist himself would do if he came across the two in question while he was off to the pub for lunch. In fact, I would guess he has probably witnessed such violence himself more than once and just kept on walking.
