Australia Queensland - Cat survives two weeks in removalist truck

Cat survives two weeks in removalist truck to be reunited with family

A FAMILY has been reunited with their beloved cat after it miraculously survived two weeks in a removal truck.

Snowball had no food or water in the back of the truck as it travelled with his owner's furniture for more than 3000km from Minden in Queensland to Katherine in the Northern Territory.

Daniel and Kirsty Cochrane, along with daughters Carrie, 12, Taylah, 7, and two-year-old Rebekah said yesterday that it was their Christmas miracle, The Northern Territory News reports.

The family were devastated when they lost the white Siamese-cross tom cat on the day the removalist packed everything from their Queensland home into the truck on December 9.

But their devastation turned to sheer joy when the removal van arrived at their new home in Katherine on Tuesday - two weeks to the day after it was packed - and Snowball was found meowing while trapped inside a recliner.

The family had to cut the lounge chair open to free him.

"We've said that it is our Christmas miracle this year - it sounds corny but it is," Mrs Cochrane said.

Vet Alex Burleigh said Snowball was "surprisingly well" for having undergone such an ordeal and was expected to make a full recovery despite having lost half his body weight.

Lucky Aussie cat lands on feet after 34-storey fall

Lucky Aussie cat lands on feet after 34-storey fall
SYDNEY (AFP) – A lucky Australian cat used up one of its lives when it survived a 34-storey plunge from an apartment building window, a report said Wednesday.

The seven-year-old moggy Voodoo vanished from a high-rise flat on the Gold Coast of eastern Queensland state on Monday and reappeared on the ground where his fall was apparently broken by some well-placed bushes.

The cat's owner, Sheree Washington, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Voodoo was fond of standing on a small ledge outside the 34th-floor flat and looking down on the world.
"Obviously he was looking over too far and went. So he fell 34 floors and was lucky enough to land in some bushes which I think have saved him," she said.
"We've had a look at where he landed and one of the branches that was broken has got cat hair on it and it's about an inch (2.54 centimeters) in diameter. So he was a very lucky pussy cat," Washington said.

The fortunate feline got away with only minor injuries, including scratches and a damaged paw.
