LONDON – Americans are the most annoying travellers in the world, a global poll reveals.

They are followed by those from France (12%) and Germany (10%).

British and Chinese travellers (equaly six per cent) complete the roll call of the five most annoying nationalities, according to the survey of 8,931 people by online travel reviews company TripAdvisor.

Children who kick the back of airline seats are the ultimate no-no for almost one third of travellers (31%).

Rude seat recliners drive one in five travellers mad (21%), whilst passengers who bellow down their mobile phones (16%), block the aisles whilst stowing their bags (12%) and hog the armrests (4%) are rated as being the most annoying traveller traits.

A spokesman for TripAdvisor said: “The notion of ‘travelling for pleasure’ can be a total farce when you’re surrounded by passengers who seem intent on making their presence felt – be it with a boot in the back, or an elbow in the ribs.”

The Merkin women love the sound of their high-pitched, squeaky voices & will talk non-stop at full volume, during trans-atlantic flights. Not even earplugs seem to drown out those frequencies...

If Thais travelled abroad my guess is they would replace Americans judgiimg by their consideration for others on the roads.

On the contrary Thormy, I've witness a broad circle of Thais and their internatinal travelling habits and dispositions - tend to be most polite, courteous, and interverted.

Apart from their penchant for dropping their bags in the middle of narrow walkways and in front of entrances to wait and invite their friends to join them.

No, but I am often ashamed at the behavior of some of my countrymen... Usually in the form of berating some poor service person for not placing the Merkin's needs before their own life... Typically while wearing baggy shorts, a wife beater, sandals and topped off with a ball cap and shades...

Part of this stems from cheap transportation, as it has allowed the great unwashed masses to travel... Unfortunately, they are usually from Podunk, Alabama and the farthest they have ever traveled was to the state capital for a hog calling contest... Hopefully the WWFF and increased airfares will keep these folks on the farm and out of the airports...

As far as worst behavior on flights, Middle Easterners top my list... Don't care which God they worship, they're all twats when it comes to common courtesy while cooped up in an aluminum tube at 35K feet...

certainly it would be more desirable to these other whiners if they were able to stow their bags first and then every one else just held theirs on their laps..

As KW is so fond of pointing out whenever it suits his argument, it's only one poll...clearly unscientific and far short of any consensus...

Very difficult for Americans as theyre usually very fat and have bags of babies for in flight snacks.

I was in Hong Kong 6 months ago talking to a local and he sort of said the same thing.

You can really see the difference in the mainlanders and the locals in the way they conduct themselves, the mainlanders just barge there way through like there life depends on getting to the front of the line.

Another good place to see this in action is any train station in India, thank fok they have a separate place for foreigners to buy tickets.

That's certainly one possible interpretation.....but as I see it based on the above post of these being the most annoying traits and the fact that they consider Americans the most annoying travellers it is easy to conclude that they are referring to these traits as determining factors in their conclusions..
